What I am talking about is the 100 had its own frame, etc. Is the 200 special or is it the Tundra drivetrain with the 100 series frame, etc. ??

I believe the frame is significantly revised.

See: 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser - First Looks - Truck Trend

Here is the relevant quote:

Although the physical size of the vehicle didn't change much, the frame is now fully boxed, with two of the rear hydroformed cross-members now thicker and stronger. Additionally, the frame rail cross-sections are larger. The result: Torsional rigidity increased by 40 percent. The overall body length is 2.4 inches longer, which means there's slightly more front and rear overhang.

Great article. Too bad that diesel won't be coming to the States.

Never say never. With the big Benz GL here in diesel now and rumors about other big competitors coming here in diesel, maybe.

We can only hope.

If it does get here, I will be seriously tempted to sell my LC200 and move up IF the engine is as beastly as the 5.7 and the mileage bump makes it worth while.

Anyone know the comparative stats of the 5.7 to the non-US diesel?

Toyota should consider it. GM is bringing out a smaller Duramax that is going to be offered in their 1/2 ton trucks,
Tahoe's and suburbans in 2010. Anybody know the MPG of the LC's diesel?

That diesel would make it THE perfect rig to tow the 25' Airstream I'm planning on getting.

Problem with diesel in the USA is the price of diesel fuel!!!! You would have to get 33% better mpg over gas just to break even on a miles versus cost basis. Gas now $2, diesel now $3 per gallon. Also to make a diesel exceptable for the environment it has to be a complex installation the cost big $$$ and has a bigger $$$ problem complexity cost over the life of the vehicle. Until diesel cost less then gas like it should diesel is a big waste of $$$.

If you tow large/heavy things, a diesel cannot be beat in regards to torque and MPG, not to mention engine life.

Hmm... The frame rails have been fully boxed on the Land Cruiser since as far back as I can remember. This is nothing new on the 200.

And I wouldn't consider hydro-forming necessarily a good thing...

True if it is welded on it weakens it you need to have special knowledge to work with a hydro formed frame rail and not jack it up. This might be a problem for the guys that like to mod their ride.

Just curious. Anyone know why the 4.5 LC engine can't pass regulations for USA?
5 words. Lack of Diesel Particulate Filter.

ITs a thing like a catalytic converter except it has a fuel injector in it. When the DPF gets hot, the injector injects fuel into it and the tailpipe burns off the harmful crap at a whopping 1200 degrees. woot!

Hope your legs arent near the tailpipe when your Diesel is in regeneration mode lmao.

The URJ200 is it's own creation....frame-wise, etc.

And a diesel will not be a success in the US sales-wise. The "typical" US buyer of the LC/LX won't want it for sure.

IH8MUD'ers are the huge minority of new LC/LX buyers.

Sad but true.

John you're always so negative, whats wrong? You gotta think positive if you want good things to happen, like toyota bringing a Diesel.

You're nuts. I am going by the facts.....do the research. I'm not the "diesel dreamer who's in la-la land because they prefer it for wheeling". I'm objective.
