Hi, I am about to take the turbine out for service, and this is the only truck that I have, so, it is safe to drive it for, say, about 2000 km without turbine and air filter? I will stay at city, waiting for my turbine back~

I don't know if no turbo is a bad idea or not, seems like it shouldn't hurt anything

but you must use an air filter. Maybe you can find one that will fit the hose that should connect to the turbo?

No turbo is going to mean smoky and potenially (overly) hot exhaust especially if you put the truck under load (ie. climbing any substantial hills) No filter is going to mean you will 'dust' your motor and will greatly shorten the life- if you get lucky and only suck in dust. It will mean engine failure if you suck in anything larger. If you do this I'm going to say you are dumb and don't deserve to drive a Landcruiser.

Frick! Buy a $500 Honda and drive it around while your turbo is being fixed and then sell it for the same amount of money when your truck is done!

<EDIT> I just realized you're in Taiwan...don't know what the used car situation is over there...but still...I would find something really cheap, drive it around, and sell it for minimal or no loss when your truck is done.

No turbo should not be a problem for the short term you may have to adjust your fuel supply down a bit to reduce any smoking but you must have a air filter you dont want any objects getting sucked into the engine.... also it going to be alot slower running NA

after thinking it through a little, I'm thinking that if you turn down the fuel slightly it should really be no problem. The hd-t increases fuel when the IP senses boost.
No turbo=no boost=no increase in fuel=no problem

as I (and everyone) said: no air filter=big problem
don't do it.

disclaimer: I could be wrong about the effect of driving without a turbo, but I think that if you don't see black smoke pouring out, then there is no reason to believe that you are "way overfueled" and thus no particular reason to worry.

Without the turbine in place, what are you going to do with the oil and coolant feeds? And if you are going to remove the turbo housing, I guess you'll have to do something about the exhaust manifold and the intake.

If it were me...I'd just pick up a cheapo car like I've said.

thanks for everyone!

I guess I will buy a cheapo CT26 turbine to send to rebuilt, or deal with rebuilter for core exchange, they might eventually let me send the old one later..

I don't wanna risk my baby as other has suggested possible problems~~

stone: good point on the oil/water lines
the water line could be bypassed with some hose, I think. But it would be a hassle
Ditto with the oil line. A hassle.

The exhaust would be loud as can be.

easier to buy/rent a small car or a 2nd turbo, I guess.

there are cheap CT26 on ebay .. around 300 bucks that I will buy in a blink just to rubild mine and keep one as reserve ..

I will never rist an factoru turbo engine, running it without turbo .. ( even If I had a pyro .. )

yeah i think i would go that route too tapage.
people are crooks when it comes to ebay shipping.

if you want to run no turbo for a little while it will be fine
plug your oil return, supply and join the coolant lines (one feeds and one returns)
reconnect air filter
and turn down fuel
it will be gutless (my 3b was) but it will get you around town
and if it is straight piped it will sound like a shotgun @ low rpm and WOT yes the noise is a bit excessive

I don't even know how you would do it without a turbo... too much lines and exhaust fab to bother. Also the fuel would be too much going in, with not enough air.

It's not practical or advisable.

I would not even do it on my 3b which is a non turbo motor with an add on turbo. Mainly cause I would need to re-install the non turbo manifold and change the exhaust and all the lines. Not worth it.
