Went on a night run last PM. 6PM to 330 AM.

We traveled Iron Mtn Road to the Leak Springs Lookout. Iron Mtn was icy all the way past No So road and then we got into snow. The snow was beautiful powder and blazing trails was easy.

Once we turned off onto Leak Springs the going was a little harder. Those on 33's had some difficulty and had to winch and be yanked a few times. My cruiser on 35's never had a problem.

We made it to the lookout, climbed the tower, did some 2 M DX and left to make our way to Hwy 88. I forget the road but it was a windy road that took 2 hours to get to 88 on. Again those on 33's (or those who refused to air down below 15!!) had minor problems.

Snow conditions ere excellent. The temp was in the mid 30's. The wife and I were in bed by 330 AM.

Somehow I didn't see this thread.

Thanks for the update. There should be more snow up there by the time we head up around Weds 12/27. Maybe a foot or so more. Being that its a paved road, and not a trail, I'd go down as far as 10 PSI. It's pretty much a lowrider by then.

Does anyone know what the current conditions are at Iron Mountain. I know we haven't gotten any snow lately, but just wondering if there's any snow to play in still.

I heard they locked the gate cuz some (or alot of) people went up there and got stuck. Called for help, and involved some helicopters??

Jone,
I know there's a gate at the hwy 88 end; is there one at the Sly Park Rd end?

Carl

I 'm heading up there this weekend and called the Ranger station Friday about closure. They stated that the gate on the 88 end was closed. They close the 88 end and only snowmobiles are allowed on that last section. Sly Park Road up to one of the last roads is left open for snow fun. They did have people trying to use it as a "shortcut" to Tahoe, but had tow outs and one medivac by helicopter keeping the Rangers and CHP busy. She stated that it was still open, not much snow, but still open.

Thanks Jeff,

I'll be up there this weekend also with a group...so I'll see you there. Will you be taking the 100? I'll be in my camo'd 80.

Carl

Now the group is starting to bale out, but I think I'm going anyway. Yes the 100 is going to be towing up the Willys for shakedown time. My son wants to freeze his ya-yas off in the '51. I'll listen to my CD's and crank up the heater.

Jeff,
Did you go to Iron Mountain over the weekend? We end up changing our plans based on the reports we got from ranger station. We ended up going to Strawberry Trail, but realized when we got there that the snow condition was deep and icy and only made it 30 yards in from trailhead. So we stay on N19 and went as far as we could until it got too deep.

Carl
