Nice observation about the number of wraps. So if I understand coil springs correctly, this means the ironman coils are more compliant (softer) because they more length to twist over?

for the same diameter, but Jon report that the Iron springs are thicker

Thats what I noticed as well.

Jon,

In the list Ebag posted there are two 4" springs listed, one for 220 lbs extra and one for 440 lbs extra, which one did you use?

I used the front springs for the front and the rear springs for the rear. There is only 1 choice for the 4" lift.

It's a little hard to tell, but from the coil comparison pic, it looks like the ironman springs makes 2 more coils (12) than the OME (10). Am I seeing this right?

Yes you are. More wraps, thicker steel.

He Jon,
When you get a chance, could you provide your hub to fender distance, and basic description of what you're carrying on your truck?

fixed it for you.

Yeh Jon, we WANT to know...

I have a tall favor to ask. Could you measure the diameters of the two and post please?

fixed it for you.

Yeh Jon, we WANT to know...

Don't you guys have anything else to do?
Measure the diameter? Yea, I'll get right on that.

Stuff in my truck right now:

Wrapped neatly behind the 2nd row seats I keep the following:
Spare rear driveshaft
Spare steering rods w/ends (calibrated)
Spare rear axle shafts (2)
Spare birfields (2)
Long side front inner axle.

Stuffed into the tailgate:
Jumper cables, first aid kit, FSM and EWD (original hardcopies), box o gloves, toilet paper roll, paper towel roll, kinetic recovery strap.

Still rolling around the cargo area:
BucketBoss wrench roll stuffed with all the essential stuff, tarp.

When I go out wheeling I add 2 RubberMaid totes full of tools and supplies and fluids, my tool box, more parts, cooler, kids, food.

Hey John, can you go out and measure the total space between the wraps to let us know the full compression length of the coils?

Also what is the weight difference and do you notice that weight increase when traversing the speed bump down at Star Bucks?

what did you do for castor correction?

what did you do for castor correction?

Ironman makes 5 degree plates included with their kits. I use them with J's and 1" spacer. Work great, although some grinding on the lower control arms was necessary on my truck, not all will need that.

Front measured from hub center to plastic flare

PS=24"
DS=23.5"

Rear measured from hub centerline (hard to do accurately with SF rear) to sheet metal. Both flares in the rear are gone.

PS=26"
DS=25.5"

Keep in mind this is sitting in my driveway which is sort of level...mostly. There were no tools used other than a tape measure and my eyeballs so there's a margin of error.

Update...

Just a bit of an update after having this combo for a few weeks now. The truck rides great. I have found myself putting the truck into turns way harder than I have in the past. It really doesn't have the top sway that the old setup had. By no means is it a sportscar, but my commute has many twists and turns along with potholes and frost heaves, and she just does great. Very stable in the turns and I'm not getting any wheel hop in the bumps anymore. It just tracks properly.

2 days ago I lowered my tire pressure by 2 psi down to 33 and that added to the comfort as well. It's really become a whole different beast. My wife even made a comment about it.

I still have no idea about axle articulation yet as I haven't been in the woods, but I'm hoping to get out for Memorial Day weekend with the Gotham boys. There is one other 80 in our club that runs this setup and he did very well last time out. We'll see.

PICS I want pics!

OK, Here's a shot from Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park at around 4K ft. Outstanding scenery.

I'm more interested in how it rides with the Swampers on. Than the puny stock tires.
