Anyone who does this and hasn't bought an iPad mini yet I would get the cellular model. Built in gps is much nicer than dealing with external.

Any chance that one would need a home? If it would.fit a '97...

This one is going to be for me. I stole the ashtray and button section from a junk 95-97 dash and transplanted into a 93-94 dash. I'm doing this so I can have my cb in my ashtray instead of next to the center console. Next will be the iPad dash bit.

Very nice work...

I really like it...

What kind of paint do you use to finish the bezel? And, what grit paper do you finish at?

Is there any way to put the CB audio through your stereo speakers? My issue in the past is RCA inputs on my HU.

Not sure, my plan was to dedicate one of the under the dash speakers locations to a CB speaker. Totally separate from the regular sound system.

That's great. I am hoping to get an 80 soon and while I refuse to use apple products, this does give some good inspiration for a Carputer using a BeagleBone, Rasberry Pi etc.

Beautiful great job,I like.

I messed with a raspberry pi for data logging in my 80. The problem I found was shutting it down nicely after the vehicle was shut down. I kept corrupting sd cards.

I have some plans for a media server using a Mac mini and I'd like to incorporate an arduino for viewing sensor data and switching relays from my iPad dash.

What is your reason for disliking apple products?

Hmmm I really need to stop looking at this thread or go buy some fiberglass and start playing around.

It's cheap, give it a go. It does get expensive if you get the iPad stuck in the fiberglass.

Yea, I have been looking at device options. Can't decide what device I want to go with yet. I have an android tab and like it but its old and wont build a dash around it cuz its short for life I'm sure. Also have the Ipad mini without GPS and decided I want the GPS built in. Have a Droid Maxx which screen size is acceptable in most circumstances but would probably be too small in the dash as its so low and far from drivers line of site. Also I upgrade phones almost annually and they always change size. Considered a Nexus 7 for its wireless charging, size and price but they have GPS issues and reports of overheating. I just ordered the Sony MEX-N5000BT so I'm going to start by seeing how well it interfaces with both apple and android with the App Remote.

Then I have to see about trail software.

Anyone using GPS software for any platform that has trailmaps? I envision being in an unfamiliar area and checking an app for nearby trails and it showing where the trailhead is, a name of the trail and maybe even some trail info? I know it seems like a lot to ask but in this day and age its got to be possible. Obviously I would have data connectivity if possible but would be nice to have it work without it even if it took up a lot of space I'd download all the info for the region I'm traveling in.
