^^^ Good to know. I've generally avoided that one because it seemed like the added screen and controller made it look a bit fiddly for me. I'm looking for something as simple as possible. Is my impression wrong ?

Parrot mKI9200 install

This is how I set it up.

The Minister of Finance didn't like the remote control on the steering wheel so the little joystick thingy is next to the little TFT screen.

The audio quality is great and using the ISO adaptors on eBay for seller commplexsolutionsltd http://myworld.ebay.com.au/commplexsolutionsltd/&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2754

And the clicon mount to hold the phone nicely...

I guess the install took an hour by the time I took the seat out to get to the amplifier plugs and route the cabling. Reasonably straightforward, although I'm used to working through wiring instructions.

Cheers,
Andrew.

Hey, your car is backwards! ;)

Thanks. Looks good! I think my current interest is in the GROM piece. Seems to meet all my needs. Going to chat with them today I think.

I've been communicating with GROM tech support.

They claim their USB unit won't support a direct USB connection with the iPhone 5 to USB (lightning) cable though it will charge the phone. They also say that the USB will work if you use the 30 pin adapter on a cable, then you can have music wired and phone function blue toothed. Unfortunately I'm trying to use a cradle that has the 8 pin connection built-in. I want to be able to simply drop the phone into the cradle and have it connect. It's way beyond me why one company's USB connection will support the 8 pin lightning cable (VAIS) and another's won't. I've asked them why.

Another difference between the two is that the GROM units disable the armrest cd changers. VAIS connection simply adds to the existing changer connection without disabling. I have yet to use the changer myself but the idea of having a useless piece of hardware int he car bugs me.

The GROM tech guy suggested I not worry about USB audio connection and get the BT3 model which has bluetooth for audio and phone built in and a charging-only USB cable that will work with the 8 pin lightning plug. Charging connection cable is an add-on.

I'm thinking this is the route I will end up taking. Sure has been a complicated and educational journey.

I say go for it and let me know how it works out. I have been contemplating the same setup. I wonder if there is a way to install it in the enter console by using a harness where it connects to the cd changer instead of behind the radio in the dash....

^^^ I was considering trying to use the VAIS harness which allows the CD changer to remain by plugging the changer into the back of the VAIS plug which goes to the head unit. Of course its unlikely the plugs will all be the same but ya never know.

there's also the DICE mediabrudge which claims to support iphone 5 via direct USB and bluetooth for the phone. considerably more expensive though.

Just an update if anyone's interested. (x-post)

GROM Audio BT3 installed and working. Hid the mic in the roof console. Bluetooth audio from iPhone 5 sounds great. Phone calls IMO are not as good sounding as when using the cassette adapter. I got the additional USB cable and use it for charging only.

I'm a bluetooth noob so I have some understanding to do. For example, every time the phone goes in the car the music starts up even if I had paused it when leaving the car previously, unless I completely turn off the app playing the tunes. That's kind of a pain, but I suspect it's a resolvable issue.

The BT3 doesn't do two things I liked about the MML. It doesn't override the "I agree" requirement on the NAV system and it does require that the external changer be disabled. Why they couldn't use a piggyback plug for the head unit harness like MML did I don't know.

Bottom line to me was that the choices are limited. I couldn't find one that did exactly what I was after. If someone were to combine all the best features of the different options there'd be one great unit! Until then I think the GROM BT3 is the one that does most of what I wanted out of an integration system. It's REALLY great not to have a bunch of wires hanging around the dash and console.

MML is going into the classifieds here.

it's bluetooth. it'll work. sheesh! ;)

I recently put in a GTA car kit for my 100. Works great with the stock nav and radio. no splicing- plug and play. You have to buy an additional cable for nav. Can control the iphone thru the steering wheel controls.

I have a VAIS setup and use it on my itouch. I prefer the itouch so I don't have to worry about the phone part as I just leave it in the car in the bottom of the storage console.

My adapter is below the shift console and I drilled a small hole into the Storage console where I keep the itouch.

The limitation to work effectively is playlists have to be 999 songs or less. Mine is a few years old so maybe they have fixed this.

The steering controls work for moving to the next song or going back

When I start the car it starts at the beginning of the song it was playing when you shut it off. If you are running a bunch of short errands and listening to a long Pink Floyd song, you will hear the beginning multiple times

I Installed it myself about 2.5 years ago and have not had any issues with it. I would prefer a setup that allows you to hook up a USB memory stick with songs and plays them, but that would be a challenge to integrate into the older stereo system.

This should work for the 5S as there are adapters between the old and new cable, but I haven't tried it

I have the USA Spec under my shift console in my '04. Works perfectly. I ran the cable out my e-brake slot. Have an adaptor for the new iPhone5 plug and haven't noticed an issue yet. Everything seems to work fine.
