Anybody used a usa spec or vais to connect their iphone 5 to the facory head unit?

I have the USA Spec PA20 with the lightning to 30 pin attached and it works great. The only issue I have had is the phone starting up music instead of Pandora after a phone call.

I have a '99, and they dont make anything compatible with my radio

I've been communicating with VAIS and they say the MML with USB will work fine with the iPhone 5, '03 LC factory nav/radio. Haven't ordered yet but intend to.

I cam confirm Vaistech q3 works! I added a 30-pin Bluetooth dongle to allow for wireless streaming. Great sound, but obviously no remote steering from the stereo.

The application guide for the MML from their website it only works for 04-07

^^^ In other threads people have had success with the MML in other years as well as LC'a. getting mine installed on thursday. cross your fingers for me.

Good luck! Please report back and tell us how you like it. I've been meaning to pull the trigger for my '04 with Nav...

^^I'll be asking them where they plan to put it. No AHC problem for me, but VAIS recommends making the unit reasonably accessible for firmware updates and programming.

Anyone care to recommend a preferred mode for running the MML? No matter how many times I read the manual I can't seem to comprehend the differences.

oftpiste, not sure what you are asking exactly. I usually have an ipod plugged into mine and just leave in it the console box. In that manner, the playlists are treated as 'discs' by the CD player of the head unit. Or you can play all songs in one large playlist. The confusion lies in how you organize the files if you're playing music off a flash drive.

According to the manual there are - I think - 3 different 'emulation' modes which are selected by a process involving the two programming switches. It seems the CD emulation is the one for my generation of nav system and the one I like the looks of, but I cant tell if the different modes are a matter of preference or whether the mode you chose is dependent upon the OEM system you have.

I'll be using an iphone5 most of the time but may try other USB inputs.

One thing I have noticed lately with the PA20 is that occasionally, maybe once if the trip is over 30 minutes, the adapter will trip up and think a phone call is coming in. It will stop the music, and say "Call Terminated By Network" then go back to playing music. It has never happened when the phone is not plugged into the PA20, and Bluetooth connectivity has no effect in causing it. On a positive note, the PA20 will show song information while playing Pandora, or using the Music app, but does not show it when using TuneIn or Iheartradio. If I can figure out the cause of it thinking its receiving a call I will pass the info on.

My epic tale of MML Fail.

After asking what I thought were all the right questions I ordered an MML. Had to wait two weeks for an appointment with one of their recommended installers. Took it to the appointment where they told me I didn't have the right Y harness (I had the Lexus and needed the Toyota version). Then they charged me $240 and sent me out the door without so much as a "sorry about that, when you come back we'll see what we can do to help you out". There was some attitude at this place too. While the problem wasn't their fault I felt their customer service sucked and didn't go back.

VAIS was kind enough to send me the right harness free of charge which was appreciated.

Still reeling from my bleeding wallet it took me some time to take another stab at it. This time I found the world's coolest installer, completely by accident, at a well known car stereo chain store in Seattle. Total charge was $150. He let me watch, let me help, walked me through the trim removal and taking everything apart and putting it back together and we even found a mystery item add-on behind the nav that I'll post in a fresh thread.

The good news is that the MML worked perfectly to integrate my iphone 5's music with the factory head unit, screen and wheel controls in my 2003 LC. It sounded good too.

The bad news is that the MML doesn't provide any actual hands-free phone functionality which, though I researched carefully and specifically asked VAIS about that functionality, was an issue I never realized was the case. Having phone AND music integration was what I was looking for in the first place. I wanted to get rid of the extra wires and have one plug to do everything. So I had him take it back out since it really didn't solve my probem or relieve me of any wires.

I really feel like these products' manufacturers should be very specific about the fact that even though they all call there products "iPhone integration" that the phone doesn't work through them. In all my research - and I did a lot - this was never clear to me. Perhaps I'm just a moron (wouldn't be the first time I'd been called one).

What the worlds coolest installer taught me is that phone data and music data are different and not designed to move through the same connection, so there's apparently no product available to integrate both music and phone without running 2 wires from the phone. I find this kind of amazing.

The ability to control the iPhone 5 from the nav screen is really not important to me though would be cool if it did everything else I wanted. What I want is something built in that gives me the ability to charge the phone, play music, pandora etc AND have a handsfree phone using the phones built-in microphone. The combination of the cassette adapter and a power cable does this, but the quality is not that great and there're all those damn wires. Is there anything that does what I want?

The cost of my education?
$250.00 for the MML which they will not take back on return because it's been more than 30 days.
$240.00 for first install fail
$150.00 to find out the product was never designed to do what I thought it was.

$640.00 and I'm back where I started! Sigh. The worlds coolest installer did say that if I came back with another product or needed advice that he'd hook me up on the labor side.

So I may have an MML for sale soon and am back to the very expensive drawing board.

I have been told that true cruiserheads don't use Apple products... Too artsy-softy they say... :)

been an apple guy for too long to ever turn back! artsy softy is how I'm often described.

If you happened to have paid with Amex, they have "return protection" for up to 90 days.

VISA. I could probably pursue a claim, but it's a hassle and I can probably sell it here for most of what I paid for it.

What I'm most interested in is what the hell I can put in that solves my problem! Doesn't seem like a real unusual sort of thing to want.....

looks like the USAspec TOY35 might be the ticket.
