Hey all,

......

BTW, When & Where is the next BBCNN meeting?
March 8th, Round Table Pizza in the Old Town Mall at 6:30.
Meetings are the second Tuesday of the month at the Round Table in the Old Town Mall. We meet in the back room at 6:30, but there is usually a general BS session before and after the meeting.
We usually have a post stuck in the top of this forum week or so before each meeting.

Well it looks like I will probably miss the March meeting, but I should be in town for the Apr. and May meetings.

Here is a "before" pic the day I brought it home...

FYI, I am stripping the chrome and ditching the diamond plate. Already flipped the bezzle, but the whole front end is off right now for the PS install. I am concentrating on the mechanicals this winter and plan on slowly working on the cosmetics after it is safely drivable. The interior is also stripped out and I will be installing new seats all around. There is hardly any rust for a vehicle this age! I also need to extend my cage to accommodate the kiddo's. I am planning on a rattle can paint job in a similar color while I undergo this initial process, then just wheeling it for a few years. Maybe a "frame-off" resto when my son is old enough to understand and help me. Looking forward to meeting a few others who share a passion for the old school TLC's, 'cause the wife just doesn't understand. I'm also hoping I can learn a bit from a those with a bit more knowledge than myself.

Cheers!

-Jeff

Well new member to the forum though I have been lurking for a while. Old Pathy is getting to the point that it needs more work than it is really worth (PL dont work, PW on passenger and drive side front are slowing WAAYYY down, short in the interior lights, etc). So the wife gave the go ahead to start looking for my FJ60 I have been wanting!!

Gonna look for something pretty clean as I will keep it mostly stock and plan to buy in the spring/summer next year (when I can sell the pathy and use my mtn bike as transportation for awhile).

Yeah unfortunately for the time being I have the old pathy. Starting the search for the right FJ60 (not a 62 fan) and then mods from there..

Love those!!!
I had a 62 though and did love it.
That was my first "hit" of this whole drug we call cruisers. :)

Hi.

Some of you may recognize my name from Reno4x4... maybe

I'm Max, I'm from all over but ended up in Pershing County for a few years before moving up to Reno, been here a few years as well.

I really like exploring remote areas and unfamiliar places.

I drive an 07 Tacoma. Wish I had a cruiser as well. Hope to make it on a few runs with you guys if you'll permit my Taco. :)

Welcome to the asylum.

Truck looks like a solid build.

Welcome!
Any Toyota with a low range transfer case is qualifies you for membership in the club. (We added the low range part to keep the Rav 4 people out.:grinpimp:)

Typically anybody that shows up is welcome on our runs.

Well I may be joining you guys soon than anticipated. Working on getting a FJ60 out of California and going to test drive this weekend. Hoping that she drives well.

Anyone happen to know a good, reputable shop in South Lake that I can take to for an inspection?

Thanks man. :)

The 35s are a project to fit. Fender liners are gone, chopped cab mount as far back as I could. Smashed the pinch weld flat, beat the hell out of the fenderwell with a sledge to add room. Cut 2" out of the fenders f/r. Had the flares narrowed. Cut some off the ARB. Relocated some support brackets. 4.0 BS wheels and caster pushed out as much as possible with LR UCAs. I get very minimal rubbing on the front flares and the upper wheel well. It compresses the bump stops fully though. I also get a minimal about of rubbing at full stuff and about 1/2 lock at the rear of the fender well. I haven't had any issues wheeling though. A 1" BL would probably save a lot of headache but nahhhh!

New gears from ECGS 4.56s with e-locker rear open front.

Mileage is about 15 avg. I calculated the other day and got 13.3 with what amounted to ~3/8 tank in 4hi/4lo snow wheeling.

It's not great but for lifted, 35s, armor, steel wheels, and a bunch of gear it's not too bad really.

I added the snorkel for a couple reasons but one of which was that after I ripped the fender liners out it exposed the intake so that was the final decision maker.

New FZJ80 Guy in Carson

Someone told me this is where the support group meetings happen (blame Rusty_TLC).

My name is Shane and I have a problem.

I have always had a 4x4 addiction, it started innocently enough back when I moved to NV in the mid 90s with my 1988 Dodge Raider. Until I moved to NV I had never had it off road even though I had purchased it with a set of 31 BFG ATs. Once here, I realized that the foothills were easily accessible and spent countless hours wandering the hills between Hidden Valley and Lockwood. That is where the addiction started, those small "hits" made me want more and more.

Shortly after that, I ended up getting married and starting a family and traded the Raider for a Subaru wagon and a mini-van. I spent a few years hiding my addiction and would occasionally sneak down a fire road in my Subaru just to get a quick fix on the way home from work, my wife never suspected my dark secret...

Once the kids started getting a little bigger, I decided we needed an SUV so I picked up an 1989 Wagoneer put a minor lift on it and some bigger tires and started taking the kids "The long way to the grocery store" which usually involved taking kings canyon over to Voltaire canyon. We ended up trading the minivan in for a 1997 Suburban shortly after and even it made a few long trips to the grocery store.

At this point, I realized that my 3 boys were really enjoying these trips. I know as an addict, that your children are 100X more likely to be addicts too. I had only one choice...

Feed our family addiction!

Fast forward a few years and we are in a full blown bender, rolling in a TJ Unlimited on 35s tearing through the deserts and mountains every weekend. At this point I knew we had a real problem. The jeep wouldn't fit the whole family and gear. I ended up trading in the jeep for a bigger family SUV. For a while I thought I wanted to be a Land Rover guy and even spent a year "experimenting" with a Discovery, but the high was way too harsh and and the habit way too expensive for what I wanted. Recently I decided it was time to get back to cheap and reliable thrills. That is what led me to my latest purchase.

A 1994 FZJ80.

It sure is ugly paint-wise, but it is mechanically a spring chicken at just 184,000 Miles young.

The previous owner was going to build it, but found a deal too great to pass up on a 100 series, (but not before he converted the front hubs to all metal aisins and bought a bunch of stuff he never installed). His gain is my gain :)

Plans in the near future. OME 2" kit to fit 33s a roof rack and sliders. Maybe a bumper and a few other trinkets...

LOL!!! YEAH RIGHT!!!
2 in lift, 33's, sliders and a bumper?????
Your road to "chasing the dragon" hasn't even begun!!!!
Why do I know this!?!?!
YOU ARE ON MUD!!!!! once youre hooked into this place, start getting out wheeling w/ other "enthusiasts" and see things they have done and CAN DO w/ their rigs... Only then will you be cinching up the tourniquet!!!!
Sure... The 80 series looks like a mall crawler, but.... I bet that within a couple years that thing will be re geared, 35's fully armored, locked and you'll be a full on junkie!!! :)

RUN AWAY!!!!! RUN FAAAAAR AWAY!!!
take up knitting!! Maybe golf??? Anything but this!!!

Yeah yeah... I was already doing the math on 35s today.... :hmm: I know me... It will be built much sooner and much bigger than I plan, though I know what I want to use it for and rock crawling isn't it, so an overland rig sets the basic direction I want to go in. (where is that smiley of my money flying out of my wallet into a bonfire?)
