My name is Ken and I have a 1976 fj40, that right now is in a few pieces. A friend and I have finally started building and fixing the darn thing. Unfortunetly the previous owner was really good at cover up. As long as the wallet holds up everything should come along greatly.

I'll try to be there....Tuesdays are tough as you can tell from my less than stellar attendance record. But I need to come, because I think I still owe Mike $6 for a hat I bought at meeting #1 (terrible hat by the way, makes me look like Beldar from the coneheads)...

Hope to see you Tuesday.

New to the Area

Hi guys,

My name is Arthur and my family and I just moved to Truckee from CO. I've got a '00 UZJ100 with 156K on it that is currently bone stock. I'd like to fab some sliders for it soon, and maybe a bumper, but due to children and a travel schedule, time and budget are tight . Also hoping for some OME 865s soon

Being new to the area, I could definitely use some advice on where to purchase steel and other welding supplies. Also, 'sspressomon, where did you have your u-bolts made for your sliders?

While my vehicle is stock, I still enjoy taking it on trails with my kids and I love working on it. I've recently changed the starter and also welded up a cracked exhaust manifold, and need to do the other side soon.

I hope to get to a meeting soon to meet everyone, and a trail run to explore more of my new home.

Thanks!

For steel...Metal Masters is probably the best prices in town. I use them all the time.
What welding supplies are you looking for?
For specific stuff, sierra welding supply on Glendale is a one stop place to go.
For wire and rods and such, I can usually find at Home Depot. For gloves, I get those from Harbor Freight along with cut off wheels, wire wheels, flap disc sanders and such.

Welcome to the area!

Hi and welcome Arthur. Telewhacker eh? No u-bolts. The 3rd and current set of sliders I made for my 100 utilize side plates, bolts atop the frame rails and bolts through the frame rails on the bottom so there's nothing hanging down: A very clean way to do it that still allows removal as necessary (compared to weld on style).

Hi Aurthor,
Another UJZ100 owner here as well as another Dan.

Welcome to the area, I hope you can make one of our meetings or runs soon.

Chicago nailed it on metal and welding stuff.

I have Spressomons old sliders on my 100, I'm not which revision, but they are well designed. I'd take his advice.

spressomon,

do you have pics of your latest sliders? On your build thread I only see version 2. Am I missing something or have you not posted them yet?

Thanks!

I never got around to updating the thread with my Gen 3 sliders. But here are the pics. I like them; there won't be a Gen 4 .

New guy to the forum

Hi my name is Duncan.

I have a 71 FJ40 that I bought for my GF. I had a 72 before but sold it.

My DD is a 95 4runner. I have chatted with a few of you guys over on Expedition portal, and maybe on Yotatech too.

Lived in AZ for 10 years, but moved back up.

Going to start tearing the 71 apart this winter, so if anyone knows where I can source a decent tub, let me know.

Also my buddy has quite a good selection of parts, if you need somethng, I can look for you

Welcome Duncan. We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.

What do you have planned for your truck? Rockcrawler, expedition, restoration, DD?

As you may know we are always here with helpful suggestions to help you spend your money.:grinpimp:

Rusty-

Going to do a "Nevada" build. Dual tanks, dual spares (got those parts). Probly 33's. Dual lockers for sure. Anyone who has lived here long knows what I mean, pretty much do it all and make it home.

The truck as it sits has a 350 and three speed. Still debating on transmission choice, 4spd or 5. There can be a lot of highway driving in NV and the 5speed is nice. I put a sm465 in my 72, and that was nice, but my buddy has the nv4500 and I really like it. The 5 speeds are just so dang spendy.

Just doing a lot of reading right now, power steering, wiring, fuel injection, brakes, etc....

It will be a long project, pretty much the whole thing needs to be gone through. The engine is good though, it looks like a Goodwrench crate motor, even with no performance mods to the motor, holy cow is that thing fast, scary fast.

I really don't want to get too far into it this year though, I am going to focus on collecting parts, prep work, research. I'm kind of limited since I signed a year lease. You probably know the drill, Can't sell the house in phoenix, so when my :princess: moves up in a couple weeks that place will be rented, then I'll start looking to buy here...... I want to keep the truck running till I do the final move.

Feels like I am spinning a dozen plates right now:grinpimp:

Hi Duncan,

Welcome :)

I used to have some 40s too, but they are all gone now.

I did most of the build up on my rig 3 years ago, I have a 5 year old son and twin daughters so I'm finally getting the time to do what I love to do, wheel. I did Cruise Moab last month and did the fall No. Cal 80 Rubicon Trip about 2 1/2 years ago when I met Dan and a couple of others from BBC. I had just built the rig before that trip and thanks to Alvaro and other spotters managed to get back for the most part with little damage. SO I would have to answer all of the above.
5.Any thing personal you would like to add? (family, hobbies, work industry)
Having crossed N NV I was totally amazed by the beauty and solitude of the desert. I hope to do some trail runs and be involved. Sorry to have missed the meeting last week.

Nice looking truck Larry.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.
