Hi all,

New to join this forum, I guess its proper manner to introduce myself a little bit.
Allthough new to the forum here, I am not new to Toyota at all and there will be some other members that know me personally.
Since 2005 I've been a loyal member of the Toyota family, as a technical instructor at Toyota Europe. Despite my specialty being hybrid and electrification, I'm very much a petrolhead and adore the old tech.

In the past I've owned a BJ40... sold it and now I am conducting a full restoration of a BJ42. It's coming along nicely and since I keep ending up on this forum, I decided to join.

Looking forward to enjoying technical and other discussions about all this tech!

Greetz,

SVR

Welcome….is that wood in the floor of the tub?

Welcome, great color combination on the truck! I am also experiencing garage envy!

Will be watching your thread to see what your up to on this build.

Yes, it is.. I liked the vintage feel it adds. And enjoy working with wood in general.
Nice. Welcome to Mud!!! Nice color! Love the combination of colors!!! I am sure you are aware, but i will mention. Just be mindful that wood floor may trap moisture and cause rust!

Welcome, nice rig and nice workspace

Thanks for the comments!
I am very aware how prone to rust these are, and that covering the bed with wood can increase this effect. But I still went ahead😅
I did throw some countermeasures at it... starting with the new tub being galvanised, lots and lots of hollow area wax injection. But the most important countermeasure is a different usage profile.
The truck will be stationed in the south of Spain... indoors, and only coming out to play when it is not raining.. it will see stones, sand and occasional mud.
It will be a very different life from the first 40 years. And if it does rust... by 2060 or so... I'll probably not care anymore😂

Thank you😁

The workshop is a much longer project than the BJ... and still ongoing. Pictures were taken while working, so not fully organised. But I'll be honest... it is a challenge keeping stuff where it is supposed to be.

Projects don't have a separate location do they? I've made loads of pictures and would love to share.. so new thread or just continue in this one?

Thank you all for the great welcome!!
I must say I am very happy with the great response to the color combo and the fact that I used wood for the tub. Actually quite surprised its not a more common thing.

Being a technical trainer it will come at no surprise that I enjoy listening/reading tech stories as well as telling them😜

So here's the one covering the 2 years I've owned this Landcruiser.

After owning a BJ40 that looked great with a "humvee" canvas top, but was very poorly reconditioned, I decided I wanted a 42 with disc brakes and if possible power steering.

I came across this 1984 BJ42 that spent its life in Italy. It was not cheap, had no power steering and the tub was a lost cause. But the chassis was excellent and the front end also... I'd seen so much worse. So pulled the trigger and picked it up.

As these things usually go I was quick to start the rebuild. Friends put me in touch with Rob and Bart from LRC and those passionate men gave me loads of advice on best upgrades, tire sizes and also provided me a brandnew tub that they assemble at their business.

I removed the old bed and placed the new before taking off the body to make sure fittings and sizes were perfect. The hardtop was repositioned just for that, even though I have no intention of restoring or ever using it
I also experimented with loads of modern seats but I ended up with some oldschool ones I had in stock.
