Cool. I could test it out for next weekend if ya like, you know just to make sure its going to hold up the way you want Lol.

I'm dying to see your finished interior, though the whole process is pretty awesome. Bumper looks great!

Yeah, I have been slacking on that. If the sun holds out I will try and get some pictures tonight with the good camera of all the seats installed. Good excuse to do a little cleaning in there.

That's sure going to be a pretty bumper... until you scratch up the paint. :flipoff2:

SSHHHHHH!! I hope I can keep the scratches to the 80. Remember, trying to keep this one as DD as possible.... Maybe, you know....:meh:

She said whaattt.....

Well, I had planned to leave the running boards on the 4Runner since I use it mostly for work and because Erin liked them. So I was talking to her about the fall ride plans and the fact that STLCA annual is the first weekend in November and ACC is the second and how I was thinking of just taking the 4Runner to STLCA and the Cruiser to ACC. So in the conversation I mentioned that I would probably pull the running boards for that trip and then putting them back on since she liked them and she says.....

"Well those or some sliders" Whhaaaaattttt?!?

She says "yeah, I can use sliders as steps too"

So now I am thinking I am on the lookout for a set. Anybody want to share your thoughts on what you got.

I have a set of White-Knuckles on the 80 and am leaning that way, but Shrockworks, Stubbs, and a few others make some nice ones too. So I welcome input.

Thanks,

I spent an afternoon building mine so I'm no help Lol. A buddy of mine has STUBS on his and he is really happy with them. I will probably get flamed for this advice but here goes, everybody wants DOM for everything IMO it not necessarily needed, for a cage where you are looking for lateral strength is very important but bumpers and sliders etc not so much. I built mine out of square tubing because its what I had, they have taken a beating and are holding up well. I guess what I'm trying to say is pick some that you like and go with that because they're all about the same.

No flames from here, your sliders are beef. And I know what you mean about the DOM. For the 4Runner, HREW is more than enough, and besides, while the function of not banging up my rocker is important, in this case they are over-designed steps for the :princess: more than anything.

I did a little looking tonight and will probably save my pennies for the next few months and give John over at WKO a call. If I could ever get my effin' welder wired up I would give building some a go, but I currently have too many other irons in the fire, with a few propped up beside it, to get into re-wiring the garage...

I tried using the same logic on my wife for my sliders, but she doesn't really use them anyway. Neither of us are short though.

For choosing sliders... there are a lot of options, it depends on what you want to do with the rig. I personally hate the look of sliders that stick out past the tire sidewalls (when looking straight on the truck) so that limits what sliders I wanted to run.

You just need bigger tires:D

You just need bigger tires:D

Don't think that didn't go through my head. :grinpimp:

But on a daily driver 3rd gen that sees occasional trails... I couldn't justify the other parts that would accompany bigger tires. Beefier suspension, stronger CV axles, bigger wheels, lower gears, etc. Then the loss of drivability and safety on the road from larger tires. Not worth it to me on this particular rig.

I'd rather just save that money and put it into a future buggy anyway.

One thing I have going for me is the Limited flares give me a much wider body to work with, heck they stick a shade farther than the tires now. Plus I need them to serve as a step for the :princess: primarily and protect the body secondly.

I'm not trying to talk you out of sliders. I'm sure you have exprienced this but sliders don't work well for steps, all the ones I've had made getting in the vehicle tougher. Just throwing that out there. Id like to build new ones for mine although mine don't stick out further than the flares id like to tuck the closer to the body so I wouldn't have to climb over them to get in the truck.

Guess what I broke down and did this morning.

I will post a few more later, but here it is up on stands after I sanded the primer and getting ready for paint.

It is drying now, need to pick up some 1000 grit so I can wet sand it and then polish it.

I am pretty happy so far :grinpimp:

Thanks man. Here are a couple of pictures of it drying.

It needs to dry for a couple days before I wet sand it and cut and polish it.

The paintscratch color looks like it is going to match really well and the flake laid really well, I was very pleased with it. I literally used up both cans of color and 3 cans of clear getting it to here. I wish I had had one more can of clear, but we will see how the polish turns out. I can always layer it up with a few more coats of clear.

I still say it would look better on my runner, and just think of all the work you wouldn't have to put into it Lol.

Wow, that looks great. I would have spray bombed it with one can and called it a day because I have no patience for paint/body work. :grinpimp:

It would have only been half painted, this d*** thing absorbed the paint.

And thanks, I can't wait to get it mounted, but that will probably be next weekends project.

Looks like a nice build. You should bring it out to the Upstate Cruisers OTMT ride August 16-18 at Golden Mountain Park. I will be there in our 4runner.
