The steering wheel squeak is actually easy to fix. The wheel telescopes on a shaft via threaded rods that turn. The factory grease on the shaft and rods dried up. I re-greased both with bicycle chain lube and it's been quiet for well over a year. I tried "light" lubes like WD40 and lithium grease and still had noise. The bike lube is pretty thick and sticky.
Hell I'll have to do this! This actually helps a lot. I'll send a update when I get it done! Thanks man

No problem! It drove me crazy and multiple lube attempts with light stuff did nothing. It's a 5-10 minute job after pulling off the plastic steering column cover behind the wheel. You could probably use grease in lieu of bike chain lube (I'm a cyclist and had some good Dumonde chain lube laying around, which seemed to fit this application well). It just needs something thick and sticky.

Good morning fellas,

I finished the front end suspension and drove it down my block. However I hear a popping sound coming from the front.. here’s a short video I posted on YouTube. Please help me diagnose the sound.

I had a similar problem and it was a loose sway bar end link bolt (where it connects to the steering knuckle). However it could be a ton of different things - I'd suggest double-checking all of your bolt torque and looking for any places where components may be touching each other. It could also be the driveshaft slip yolks or U joints needing more grease (due to the angle being different now); unfortunately it's kind of hard to pinpoint via video instead of being in the GX.

Le’sigh

I’ll double check it and take it for another spin after I finish the rears tomorrow. Do you think it’s safe enough to drive on the highway? I can take it to an off-road shop for a diagnostic.

Thank you for the good advice each time

Hard to say without checking everything first. If it's something simple it is NBD to hop on the highway, but if it is something more serious I'd be concerned with it.

You'll probably be able to DIY diagnose it in a few hours as long as you have the time/space - I've had lots of similar pops/knocks/noises and they can usually be solved with some trial/error. You'll undoubtedly have more in the future too as you work on your GX :)

I have the time/space but damn, this feels like a crushing defeat. I just wanna drive my truck again..

Speaking of which, I checked google & YouTube for instructions on greasing the driveshaft. My friend, who helped me take everything off, also suggested it may be the driveshaft. I’m still gonna check the individual parts though. I’ll re-torque everything, and maybe even do a temporary sway bar delete.

Is this what you were referring to?

Yes, though you'll need to do the front too (and the U joints at both ends of both shafts). Both my front and rear love to make noise; I grease them at every oil change (5K) and usually get a few pops in between changes. The front driveshaft noise is more of a non-metallic "clunk" and you can usually feel it in the floorboard. Mine sometimes appears and then goes away. I think some folks have removed the shaft and disassembled/cleaned out old grease to make this problem better. I haven't tried that yet since it's easy to just add more grease.

I use Lucas Red 'n Tacky grease and also hit up everything greaseable under the GX (aftermarket ball joints and sway bar end links).

Double check your Rotor Shield! I had a smililar issue with my build when I got my suspension on where my shield was rubbing up against my rotor. Just pulled it back all around and the sound went away. May not be the issue, but worth a look!

Thanks, whilst I did have a bent rotor shield, the sound did not go away. I lifted the front end and manually turned the tires. The clunking is def coming from my CV’s. I don’t know which one it is, but I assume it’s the cheapo Cardone HD one. I only expected it to last 1000 miles until I rebooted the OEM one, but this is ridiculous.

I’m gonna reboot my stock OEM one this weekend, and if the clunk doesn’t go away, I’ll have to order two “new” CVJ axles, specifically the *Great* ones for lifted trucks.

Also, now my front brakes are GRINDING really bad. I checked the rotors, pads, and calipers but nothing is off.

Here’s a pic of it lifted:
