Hi All, I'm Mark, finally (almost) an owner of a FJ62 that I pick up on Tuesday. I'm pumped to find an actual forum that is vigorous for the vehicle, my other 80s Toyota (AE86) used to have a thriving forum and that just seems to have died and faded away. Looking forward to chatting with ya'll while I bring my new truck up to my standards, I was an aircraft mechanic in the Marines and I'm pretty particular about maintenance and my vehicles, basically I treat them like my helicopter.

Welcome to the forum! Please post photos of the new rig!
Good Luck!

I will post some photos on Tuesday when I pick the truck up! Thing is beautiful on the outside, I scoured the body and undercarriage for rust and I only found 2 spots around the rain gutters. Inside it needs a little love, the oil pressure gauge is dead and the radio was RTV'd into the double DIN slot in the dash so I need to clean that dash bezel and get a better radio install.

One thing I've been thinking a lot about, the truck has a H55 transmission swap and rebuilt pedal box, and the engagement point on the clutch is at the absolute top of the pedal travel. I've been through a number of threads on here, and I never found anything definite on how to fix this on a hydraulic clutch, just a number of people having the issue. Anyone have anything definite for how to fix this? I don't want the clutch riding on the TO bearing.

The later FJ60s clutch actuation is at the very top of the pedal stroke. Push the pedal down 1/2” and you’ll start actuating it. Also the pedal height is self adjusting by the slave cylinder.
On these trucks (which your 62 likely borrowed parts) the clutch release bearing is ALWAYS in contact with the clutch cover tangs and it’s ALWAYS spinning. That’s how it is designed. The slave cylinder has a spring in it that applies a constant pressure to that bearing. That bearing is very expensive and never wears out. It’s good for over 200,000 miles. Probably lasts forever.

Likely your clutch is working perfectly and the actuation is correct — it just seems different to you.

The older FJ60 clutches did pull the release bearing away from the clutch when the pedal was released — but Toyota decided that the constant contact method was actually better.

Do you have foam cutouts in your toolbox at home? I'm currently resisting re-buying a bunch of snap on tools I already own because I like the factory cutouts more than the ones I did with a Dremel
No I never did this. Line Maintenance... just carried a small box. If the lid shut easily, I knew I was missing something.

x2, that’s how the clutch is on these.

Welcome, I too had an ae86 and now have a fj60 that I will be starting a thread on soon. Also I am in the bay so not far from you.
