Lurked for a long time, owned a 60 5 years back. Bought a 1990 62 about 3 months ago, 160k, pas. fender and door dented from sideswipe. Found donor rig down street with wrecked driver side, same grey, score. Here's the irony, the donor fender had some cancer in the rocker so I patched in the rocker from my first fender. Put some 34x10.5 swampers on stock rims and 1.5" spacer (Trail/hunt rig only) went for a quick shake down this afternoon with newly installed fender and what happens? crunched the only sheetmetal i'd fixed on the rig, hadn't even primered it yet. Sliders are next on list. Here are some flex shots, I was amazed that on the stock suspension 34's only rubbed on the front inside fenders at full flex. The stock bumpstops took care of the rear, I was going to 1" bl and 1" shackle lift plus trimming to clear but I don't see the point , I'm thinking a little trim and go. Opinions? Thanks!

Looks like the karma is definitely against you owning a Land Cruiser; you should take your loss and sell it dirt cheap, and be done with Cruisers forever....when shall I come and pick it up?

:flipoff2: Oh, welcome, by the way!

Honestly, just patch it up and go with it. Years from now you'll look back and laugh at yourself. Plus you'll always have a great story to tell about "when I got my '62".

I actually laughed when I did it, it's just sheetmetal. Just funny that I had just fixed it not an hour before. And no, it took me 3 years to convince my wife that I needed a dedicated trail rig.

I was looking for suggestions on my suspension setup/tire clearance, problems? I don't see any. I can see doing a OME later for better ride and articulation but I don't understand why I dont rub more with 34's.

Tire/wheel combo experts may chime in, but my best guess on the reason you don't rub more with the 34's is due to the narrow width; and perhaps a measure due also to your front springs maintaining some arch to them.

EDIT: I re-read your original post and see that you have 1.5" spacers...so much for the narrow width theory.

When I put 285/75/16s (on 8" wheels w/custom 2.75" BS) on my FJ60 it rubbed only on the left (driver) side when making a right turn. I attributed that to the width of the tire/wheel combo and the severely flat OEM front springs.

I've since added OME 2.5" medium springs up front, eliminating any rubbing, and dramatically improving the ride quality.

Rubbing

I see it over and over on the forum lifts and 33 or 34 tires,:hhmm: I have had three 60's over the years and the factory springs on all three when not sagging from misuse or age, have cleared 33 with only limited rub in mild 4 wheeling.:) If lots of rocks and off camber situations lifts and spaces will let 34 and 35 run with little trouble. It's a question of the use, If you need to flex like a wild man to ride your trails then SOA and limit straps may be in order, but if general off road 33 and 35's with longer shackels and slight trimming of sheet metal may be just the ticket.:D Best rule is put em on and give it a try then take the steps necessary to run the rubber you want with the lift necessary. Those 34 look good on your rig by the way. Have a great time with your addiction and oh yeah welcome. :flipoff2:

That rig looks very familiar. Rocks can be ironic, which is what makes them so heavy.

What the heck does that mean? weirdo.

I just know that I'll never take those boulders for granite again. Let me mafic myself clear, take your smart talk somewhere else.

I'd still do the body lift. Another trick is to replace the bolts with round head Phillips head screws. That way when the tire makes contact it doesn't grab the inner fender.

Weirdo? Why can't you play gneiss? By the way, all the boulders in your neck of the woods are basalt. If you take 'em for granite you must be erratic.

I wouldn't be erratic, the boulders would be.
You moraine. Point: Central Oregon

Thanks Gineric I will do the 1" as it will help with the sliders anyways.
