intermittant wipers not working correctly

Since i'm on a roll today I thought I would post this question as well. Does anyone else have issues with their intermittent wipers not working very well ? Low and Hi settings work great but my intermittent is pretty hit or miss (mostly miss). On the rare occasion it does work even on the fastest setting it only wipes about 2 times a minute.

You're talking about the rain-sensing variable wipers? If so, in my experience they don't work as well after the windshield has been replaced, even if you replace the little silicone pad that connects the sensor to the windshield.

I seem to recall hearing that you can disconnect the sensor box behind the rearview mirror and the wipers will act like normal intermittent wipers, but I haven't tested it myself.

I have no idea if the windshield has ever been replaced on this one, its possible. I might try disconnecting the sensor. Thank you

mine works great most of the time, there are times when I think it should be on and is not, so then I just more the arm down one and then back up

Your saying bump it down to the low setting then back up to auto ?

I just went through issues with mine after getting the windshield replaced. First off there is NOTHING compared to a factory windshield so fight your insurance to have a factory one installed you can tell if it's factory because it will say Lexus in one of the bottom corners. Then the installer lied to me about the replacement gel pad being OEM. Once I saw how he tried to fix it I took off and ordered up a factory gel piece for $3-$5 and installed it and now things work like they should mostly. For some reason on hot days when I first start the car it does one swipe and then doesn't go off until it rains.

Good information here, I will look and see if the window says Lexus on it. Also, what's the gel pad you are talking about ? Does this hold the sensor in place ?

Bwwahahaha! I went through the same thing, new gel pad and everything. Of course, now mine does the "hot swipe" thing too. (That sounds dirty.)

The gel pad is the connection from the sensor to the windshield. There is a little clip that you pull down on from the bottom of the rain sensor behind the mirror and then the whole sensor box will come off of the window and you can access the gel pad.

Well I didn't see Lexus anywhere on the windshield, so maybe it is aftermarket. I did however unplug the backscatter sensor and the intermittent function now works.
