Interest in Shrockworks front bumper for 100 Series

That sheds some light on the subject. Thanks for the work here man.

Well they should be able to give a ballpark figure for this 50% down amount then. Once I see a quote on this then I can confirm my commitment.

Another 9 months from now before my truck has a bumper, :hhmm: I might just have to go ahead and build the one I've been prototyping myself.

holy ****....that really sounds like a PITA.

if i had to leave my truck there for 3 weeks they'd better give me a front bumper for free.

Why do u think I am volunteering..:hillbilly:

They sound really eager and interested in entering the 100 series market!

I know that getting this bumper project going is not easy but sarcasm is really not going to help - especially if the owner of Shrockworks follows this thread.

We are asking them to commit time and resources for a very limited market is the US. The 100 series is only now becoming a wheeling option as the price of entry is coming down and more people are realizing how awesome this truck is.

If you want a front bumper for your 100 your only option is currently ARB. Success with this effort will at least give us an option and foster some competition with ARB.

If any of you were thinking of getting an ARB bumper, order a Shrockworks instead. It will give your cruiser a unique look and great functionality.

Let's get it done.

Only if you want it to look like 20 other people plus those that order later. My guess is that this isn't going to happen. Getting that many people to order and be willing to put money down for a 9 month wait is going to be tough to do. The ARB Sahara bar would be almost as unique at that point. I also don't think it is realistic for Schrockworks to talk to 20 different people about what they want and do 20 different designs. What they are talking about for options is grey or black powdercoat, bars or no bars, and they might even give you a single hoop or wrap around option. But in no way are these going to be 20 unique bumpers. It wouldn't be worth it to them. They can't do production and keep the price down. The only way to keep price down is to produce a bunch of them the same. If you were truly going custom the price will be a lot more.

My guess is that in that 9 months you are waiting Slee will have his out and some folks will want to bail.

I'm not being pessimistic, I'm being realistic.

If you can pull it off, more power to you.

I'm happy with my Vorfab bumper. And it was sort of fun stopping by the shop everyday checking on the progress and making tweaks to it. My suggestion is if you want something custom find a fabricator you can work with and bounce your ideas off of and is willing to work with you. I know Vic (vorfab) loves Toyotas. Actually, he's an Isuzu guy but he loves Toyotas because they can be unique. It isn't like every other cookie cutter Jeep on the corner. He hates doing Jeeps.

I did not say that everyone gets to design their own bumper. The basic shape and function will be the same for all orders. As mentioned in my requirements outline, you will be able to choose from several colors, hoops, tabs, etc.

As far as the slee option goes: I love Slee's stuff but it ain't cheap. The basic rear bumper is $1300 - $2000 with the tire carrier. The ARB Sahara front bumper is close to $1300 plus another $325 for the fogligt kit. The Shrockworks bumpers run between $1000 - $1200 and come with a few nice options not available on ARB. That is a pretty big savings if you ask me. Using the above examples, you could almost buy a Shrockworks bumper and a set of sliders for the price of the Sahara bar (with foglight kit) only.

One more thing: If you think owning 1 of 20 bumpers is not unique - then what is?

If we get this done it will be awesome.

why dont you 20 people talk slee into doing his front bumper? He already has the prototype done, just needs some encouragement/nagging to get back on it! :D Shrockworks seems to want to put you through a bunch of hoops just so they dont have to make the 100 bumper. They dont seem interested at all in the market, I'd love for them to prove me wrong however.

FYI: My buddy waited 6-months after placing his Shrockworks front bumper order for it to be ready/shipped. May or may not be an issue for those interested in a SW bumper...

realistically, as with most group buys, the odds are not good that this will happen given that people have a way of realizing belatedly that hard cash is not quite the same as an expression of interest.

Anyway, can't hurt to try and I for one applaud folks who have the energy and willingness to try to make this happen.

So maybe folks who are interested, chip in to make this happen and folks who are not, well...

:)

personally, i think this is your best bet. You would be way ahead of the game and you know Slee will put out some good s*** and besides that Christo contributes a ton to this site...

I'm guessing the Schrockwork's bumper will be over 1k. Their Nissan bumper I installed was $850. The 100 frame horns, bumper mounts are a lot more complicated than the Nissan is. That will make it trickier to design.

My point on the not being any more unique on a 100 than ARB is that you just don't see 100s around that are modified. So even if you see one with an ARB it is pretty unique. The 100 series haven't reached the cookie cutter status that the 80 series have.

And 1 of 20 compared to 1 of 1, is a lot different in the uniqueness. I consider a one off unique and nothing less than that.

I do wish you the best of luck. I'm guessing though you are going to be challenged to find 20 folks willing to fork over $500 to wait for 3/4 of a year.

Im just waiting for slee. ill bet his is out first and is much better.

Okay - A lot of you seem to be pushing for the Slee bumper. Obviously he has the experience with the rear bumpers and various other parts so we know it will be good.

Some of you have mentioned that he is already working on a prototype. Has anyone seen it? What is holding back the release?

Slee: If you are reading this thread, can you give us some insight on your design? If you tell us that your design is ready to go we can probably forget about this whole effort. Your input would be much appreciated.

If you haven't seen Slee's work, please check the website to wet your whistle. Bumpers, sliders, skids plates, ETC for 80's, 100's and 200's... Sleeoffroad.com - Toyota SUV Off-Road Outfitters

mtnracer, I can tell you from experience selling 80 series spring spacers that I fabbed myself, your 20 committed people will turn out to be 1 or 2 that would buy.

As for your Slee questions - search - there's a whole thread already dedicated to his 100 series bumper.

I am very familiar with Slee's work. I just didn't know he was working on a front bumper. I have the LC DVD and the 2nd battery tray.

I am still hoping that Christo will respond with some updates on his work.

I will update our thread when we have more information. However we are actively working on it. Next Tuesday is the next shop day scheduled for work on it. Unfortunately it is going slowly, but it is going. We had to backtrack quite a few steps due to some decisions we made early on. The difference is we use our trucks, and do not require money up front. When we have the bumper done, we will post the prototype. We do take customers feedback, but please understand that in this small market, one has to make a product, reproduce it and sell it. As mentioned, it is not viable to make changes for individual users. Even small changes like power coat color is difficult to handle.

However we might offer that on the initial release on orders placed when we go to coating.

At this point I do not have a time estimate or cost.

Thank you for posting. I'm sure everyone appreciates the update and is looking forward to your design.
