cool idea, but for me if I was going to change the emblem I would want something in a more finished look and metal, similar to the earlier stock emblems.....

This is why I want to get a new printer. The new one I'm looking at has a build plate that is over 400% larger, can print in 7 different materials, and can print with 2 heads/colors/materials at the same time. That would allow me to print in ABS which means I can use acetone to make the emblems as smooth as glass. The PLA I'm using now is much more difficult to smooth out. Also, the pics are showing prototypes that were printed in the lowest/fastest quality. The final prints will be much smoother/higher quality.

X2, but could you make some for the 91-94 grilles?

I'm not sure. Is the grille and "Toyota" font all one piece? If it's a separate piece then I'm sure I could design a custom insert for it. I would need to see the 91-94 grille in person and preferably removed from the car.

I really wanted a Toyota emblem from your last thread but the finish looked really rough and overall the emblem looked fragile. I didn't like the rough shaven texture on the face of the emblem, made it look out of place on a truck.

I'm still interested if this can be improved, maybe a premium plastic? I don't know anything about these printers. Metal would be awesome, and I'd pay a little more for one.

This would be for a 96 Toyota...

Again, this is why I want to get a better printer that can print in ABS so I can have a smooth finish. The final one that is on my car iS much smoother then the prototypes in the earlier pics. I just didn't print them in the higher quality because the 3 hour print turns into an 18 hour print. That is a little overkill for a rough prototype for just seeing interest from mud members. In regards to metal, that would cost WAY more to have a machine shop CNC these out for me. I would need a HUGE order to make it cost effective and at that point it's just too big of a financial risk on my end. The ABS plastic will way outlast the plastic the grille is made up of so "fragility" isn't too much of a concern for me.

I messed around on my computer for a while and came up with this for the HDJ 81 crowd. I will work on an "81" logo tomorrow.

I got some PM's with some respectful critiques of my designs. They gave me some ideas. I went ahead and made an emblem that uses the old FJ40 font style. I think I like it but I'm still not sure. I will print out a couple in different colors tomorrow. I will also print one in the highest quality so those of you who are worried about the rough surface can be a little more at peace. Also remember all of these are in PLA and not the ABS that I can make perfectly smooth with some acetone.

I don't know that I'll be interested because frankly your badges would be one of the focal points of my truck and I don't want to draw the gazing eyes away from my rust, and redneck pinstriping.

But I have to hand it to ya, you have initiative, creativity, and obviously a desire to please.

I wish you success in your venture, and appreciate your willingness to allow those of us on the forum to be involved with planning and constructive critique!

Subscribed. Looking for what your ideas are with
the rear hatch emblem.

So is there any more interest in these? from the responses here and PM's and my original thread it looks like I only have about 20-30 people showing interest. I need around 100 to get even close to making this affordable for me. If I only get 15-20 guaranteed buyers then I will probably just print them out in the highest quality setting of my current printer and be done with it. I have the latest design on the printer right now printing at .05mm layer thickness which is looking very smooth. Unfortunately it's 19 hours into the print and only 65% done. This is definitely not a fast printer.

What plans do you have to replace the one on the rear hatch?
You might get 100 people but it would be over time. A thought...you can hook up with a vendor, they take the orders and sell through them.

My plan was to deal with the rear once I gauged interest on the front; but your thought process might be right on track. Maybe I should come up with a rear emblem as well and just offer a package deal. Maybe that will get the interest I need. My thought was to replace the "L" or the "sombrero" with an "80". It wouldn't have all the different options for the rear. Maybe two fonts and a choice of color. I have until Tuesday off work so it looks like you just gave me another project. I will start looking into the rear option tomorrow.

I just wanted to say how pleased I am with my TOYOTA replacement. Im not sure how much more I would like it "glass smooth" as it looks great as is. I am interested in seeing your hatch design as well as the earlier mentioned interior goodies. Thanks for the great product, excellent communication , and prompt delivery.

I'd be interested in the spelled out close group lettering Toyota for my '97. The top one in the first pic.

Let me know. Thanks.

Maybe I ran through this too fast...but where are the Lexus logos?

That's really slick, I like this one better than the earlier version.

would like to see the newer smoother emblems with similar font to the oem toyota found on fj40's, similar to treeroots rig in silver font. Would love to see some pics of the actual end product.

Edit: like this one in attached pic, but with pewter/silver color. If it was smooth and well made I would buy it.
