Yeah, what Jose posted but to fit in the 80 series grille right in the middle like others you are designing. :)

Yes!, I'd be up for one of these for my soon to be acquired 80

Would love a full-on mesh looking insert with a 40 emblem for a 91 grill. :grinpimp:

bhicks,

as i posted earlier I'm In. a big TOYOTA for the grill and now a red TEQ for the rear hatch.

i don't care that they are made out of plastic. the plastic emblems on my 60 are 25 years old and holding up just fine.

So lots of you have mentioned making a rear emblem. So I went out this evening and worked in the garage trying to get the rear emblem off. I removed the rear door handle and cover from the inside expecting to see small screws that hold the emblem on, but I found nothing. I even removed the door lock thinking maybe there would be holes behind there but still nothing. I still don't know how that rear emblem is attached. It almost seems like it's just glued on. Does anyone out there know? I stuck a flat head screw driver behind it and started prying and it heard some tearing and cracking noises but decided to stop before the emblem just shattered on me. It's kind of hard to get dimensions off of it when it's in pieces.

Try a, heat gun. A hair dryer should work in a pinch.

A piece of heavy test fishing line tied off to two handles slipped behind the emblem and sawed back and forth will cut the adhesive without hurting the paint. Dental floss can work, too.

This I how do it. The older the vehicle the heavier line you will need.

Oh, and please put me on the interested list.

Yes it is glued on

Well I feel stupid. I probably should have asked my question BEFORE I spent and hour plus taking crap off my rear hatch. Now I have to figure out what adhesive would be best to glue the new emblem back on. If anyone knows about adhesives and wants to chime in I would love to hear your thoughts.

Duct tape, or bailing wire!

Jk there's actually an adhesive used specifically for automotive badges and trim it should be available at a local parts store.

I'm in for one old school Toyota emblem in the new silver finish.

I think I could go for a small font TOYOTA emblem.
Question: is there any way to make the whole backing flatter? More flush with the grill? That's my only problem with it, otherwise I love it! I've always wanted to replace that loopy "T" thing with either an early FJ80 toyota grill or that FJ40 style name plate you've copied.

Adhesive- try 3M 5200. For when you really, really, REALLY don't want it to fall off...

It's a polyurethane adhesive and very strong. I can't reacll anything I ever put together with it coming apart. They use it on boats all the time, you can find it at West Marine or the big box DIY stores(Lowes, Home Depot).

Hope this helps!

I have never seen that but that is cool. I like the look even though I have no understanding of its meaning or reason. I will be out of town tonight through tomorrow night helping a family member move. When I get back Saturday I will try to mock up something with the "TEQ" logo. The logo is very basic and shouldn't take too much time to mock up in CAD.

It means "To-Yo-Ta" in katakana.

Read all about it here:

I'd be in for a front/rear teq.

Unfortunately I have the "Toyota" emblems as thin as I could go. The original badge has a bulge in it that sticks out which forces my emblems out. At the center of the bulging factory grille (which is also the center of my emblems) my emblem is only 1/4" thick. I didn't want to go any thinner then that. That 1/4" thickness gave me the structural integrity I wanted for the emblems to last for the long haul.

3M makes two sided automotive tape that I have used with success.

So I got the silver filament in the mail today and immediately loaded onto my printer to finish up the higher quality FJ40 font emblem. The filament is definately nicer then the budget filament I previously used. It's much more opaque. It has a slightly silvery look instead of just gray. I wouldn't say it looks exactly like machined metal but it does look nice. I took some pics of the final print with the silvery/gray letters and with the .1mm layering. That is the same layering I will use with the new 3-D printer so what you see is pretty much how they will all look no matter which printer I go with. I did my best to get the lighting to show as much surface detail as possible. In person without bright lights pointed directly at it it's quite difficult to tell the emblem isn't perfectly smooth, but I know some of you badly wanted to see the surface in detail. So if this swayed any potential interest in buying for the good or bad just let me know. From this thread, PM"s, and personal emails, I now have about 50-60 very interested people. That's getting me pretty close to making this doable with a new printer. The next print will be the "TEQ" emblem Beno asked for. I have already started the CAD design for it. i hope to have it wrapped up tonight and to start that print in the AM. Here's the pics of the FJ40 emblem.
