I spent some time searching on my own to find some answers, but didn't have much luck.

I've got an 83 yota pickup that is pretty well built up into a crawler. I've got a dual t-case setup with the rear case re-geared down to a 5:1 gear set and well built yota axles front and rear. I had picked up a 93 4-runner with the intentions of swapping all my running gear over to it. I'd have to hack out all of the IFS junk to swap in my front axle out of my crawler, plus plenty of other work.

However, I have recently come across what appears to be a fairly good deal on a 91 FJ-80. It seems like there might be quite a few benefits to building up this rig instead of the 4-runner, with the first being that it comes with an electric locker 3rd member in each axle, and also I would be starting out with a rig that already has a solid front axle.

So, with all that said, what parts would I be able to swap over from my pickup, what parts are interchangeable (if any)? Are the 3rd members interchangeable? Axle shafts, birfields (or longfields I guess I should say).

One last question. Do these FJ-80s very often come with a 5-speed manual tranny?

80's are a whole different animal... there is only one major part that is a bolt in swap between the 80's and the early mini trucks that i can think of. That's the front diff w/out the factory locker... the mini truck housing can be modified to fit the factory 80 high pinion locked diff with a little work.... If u got a welder u could throw the 80 axles under the mini but the rear axle is offset to the passenger side. I'd just run the complete 80 though. I used to be into the mini trucks but now I'm on my 3rd lc/lx 450 and don't want to switch back even though I have a turbo'd 86 truck w/ sas, dual cases and 38's sitting in my driveway. the LC's are built even better but takes a different type of driving skills to wheel because of the size and weight... and manual 80's are extremely hard to find in CONUS

None, and never in the US.

Well, seatbelts. Maybe.

No manual tranny 80 series sold in the US. Doubt anything of significance is interchangeable.

If you are looking at a 91 i dont believe you will be getting factory lockers.

i have a built first gen in the driveway and about the only thing i could swap between the trucks was my recovery gear. except for the winch, i dont really feel comfortable with a 8000#, would like a 10K for the cruiser.

i believe the front brakes will fit on the fjs (91&92)

Manual hubs might be the same?

mini truck manual hubs with early model 80 series short stub birfs. and wheels/tires...thats about it really. everything else is completely different on the landcruiser. if you're looking to swap parts, stick with the runner build. if you're wanting to build an 80, best would be to unload the pickup, and start from scratch, or buy one built.
