After reviewing previous threads re: "my intake air tube has holes, do I need to by the OEM replacement or can I buy the cheap ebay replacement," which concluded "you need to buy the OEM," I decided to try FiberFix repair tape. Not even the automotive version, which is supposedly more temperature resistant. Should you do this? Probably not. But it's held up since August.

Hope this helps somebody else.

Saved your fix for when I’ll need it. Thanks for posting.

for when I’ll need it

There may well come a time. I've had to learn to repair these on older autos where the intake boot is no longer available. I prefer a combination of "automotive goop" on/in the cracks after a good cleaning and then silicone rescue tape over the cracks from the outside.

A big problem as they age is how stiff they become which leads to brittleness and cracking. For a simple/straight design like the 80 intake tube, even if they are no longer available, it may be best to just make a new one with metal pipe and couplings.

While OEM is likely best I've run a cheap repro from ebay for a few years now and it's still nice and soft and works/looks great. If your repair ever fails one of these could be a good option.

I’ve wrapped them in duct tape to get home, no to go with the exotic stuff. The bigger concern is once it’s cracked, will a piece break off and get sucked into the motor. I wouldn’t run that as a long-term solution or it could cost a much more expensive problem.

I picked up one of the silicone intake tubes when Amazon made a mistake and sold them for much cheaper than they usually go for. So far that has been good to me.

X2^. If it’s bad, replace it with new. I’d get OEM, the best IMHO, YMMV.

If it is cracking on the outside, it is deteriorating even more on the inside. It is hotter, dryer, and more susceptible to deterioration. Just think of how many of those little tiny pieces of fake rubber you are bringing in.

Trail fix , this is fine. Replace it.
