Insurance just totaled my LX. Not sure what to do now. (1 Viewer)

I took it down. I’m letting insurance take it. I went to the shop and looked at it. Minimum would’ve been $7-8k for repairs and a quality paint job. This was my primary vehicle and wouldn’t be worth it to repair and have a salvage title. I would’ve had to pay another $1500 for labor and service fees to get it back from the shop.
Ah sad day. Hope they give you enough and you make it back into another cruiser soon!

Yeah sad watching it drive off after I cleaned it out today. It was a unicorn find (4 houses down from mine when I bought it). Not sure if I’ll get into another one right away. Still fighting over the amount. Now I know exactly what I’m looking for on the next one for sure!

Donor Door, donor front fender panel, throw those rust accelerating running boards in the trash and get some sliders and you’re golden. Seems like you could have just the new/donor panels painted

Salvage title just means youre more motivated to keep it for-ev-er

Not if it goes to any yard like the ones around here. It'll be there for a week tops until it's stripped and crushed.

Terrible outcome for what was a really serviceable vehicle that could easily have been saved. The only positive is it can give us all an opportunity to really think about how we insure these vehicles as they get older and older. Sad day in terms of cruiser Karma :frown:

About a month ago I posted on here my 2000 LX was hit and deemed totaled. Using the advice of many people on here (and the DFW Land Cruiser group on FB) I reached out to Collision Safety Consultants. Long story short I had to reject the $13.5k offer from the other driver's insurance and claim it on mine. My insurance offered me $13.7k. CSC was able to get me over $18k! I highly recommend them to anyone going through this situation. I only had 179k miles and the truck was pristine (and stock minus KO2s thankfully).

Using the money to get my wife a new car (I'm taking her old Murano) and I'm starting my fund to save up for a 200 series in the near future. I guess until then I'll just lurk on here and dream haha!

jeez... when my wife got hit in mine (by a GX) they quoted something like $6k for a tiny bit of damage to the driver's front fender and the front door. A little time with some mechanical persuasion and the damage isn't even that obvious anymore. I would have gladly seconded the guy who offered $10k with a salvage title, as I'm looking for something like that for my 16 year old. sorry to hear it went away, but I'll be keeping an eye on upcoming copart auctions.

Yeah I would’ve had to pay all the body shop fees and would’ve ended up with less had I sold it. Also don’t think I could’ve gotten $10k. Probably $8k realistically. If you want the VIN to look out for it let me know.

Can you share what the cost to hire them was? Or maybe they take first cut and you’re left with $18k?

I was hit a couple weeks ago and repair cost is about $9k. Just body damage. This was in absolutely perfect mechanical shape. Brake master cylinder and all components replaced at Toyota, radiator replaced at Toyota, KO2s with 5k miles, new OEM CV boots, new OEM windshield about 2 months ago. They offered me $13.5k and around $8k if I keep it with a salvaged title. Trying to see if I can get some added value for everything I’ve done in the past year. At a loss of words because I was planning on keeping this forever. Not sure what to do now. If I had no other choice I’d love to find a 06-07 to replace it. Any advice?

Hey.. any update on what ended up happening? I am about to through a similar situation myself.

Holy crap! Made out like a bandit, you going to get another cruiser?

Although I wouldn't be surprised if they drop you at renewal and your rates go up.

Assuming that it was the other driver was at fault, they should subrogate the claim to the other driver’s insurance, but it will go on his driving record in Texas, which will probably increase rates. I went through this when a teen driver made a blind left turn into the driver’s fender of my shiny Corvette, and his cut rate insurance tried to claim that I was 50% at fault for driving a sports car.

$600 flat fee. If they don’t get you back at least $700 more they refund you. So you’re guaranteed at least $100 more.

Seems like $600 very well spent.

Not sure yet. We got my wife a new Palisade (she drives the kids around mostly). I'm looking to get something summer of next year. I want a 200 series, but since I inherited her old car and only use it to drive to work, I'm thinking of getting a fun car again for the weekends. As mush as I love the LCs, I think I'd get more enjoyment from having something fun and quick. I've wanted an IS-F forever. Also like the GS-Fs too. Just need to sit on it for a while and see how I'm feeling next year.
