Does anyone have insurance on their offroad only rock crawler ?
Who would insure a truggy or a inline Honda powered crawler for example???

I did a seach on this site and came up with SAFECO and FARMERS as possibilities, but the thread was a couple of years old, so I am seaching for more up to date info.
I am mostly interested in liability........

Thanks for any info/suggestions

I just got it. PM me and I will remember to pull the name of the company and post it.

Stan from Branik Motorsports wife is a broker for a company that does it.

I pay $1000 a year for $60,000 in coverage.

My buggy is insured for theft, fire, wrecks towing it....as long as the ignition is off.

It is insured as a race vehicle.

if i read this right as long as the ignition is off its insured???? then whats it insured for??????? sounds dumb. if its being towed its already covered thru the auto policy towing it. if it gets stolin from home its insured under homeowners also fire

If you are towing a Vehicle that you own on a trailer that you own and you wreck your vehicle and cause damage to the trailer or what is being towed your auto policy will not cover those damages under collision portion of your claim.
Thats why you will have full coverage less ignition on coverage.

what if you roll and land on some redneck spectator and their family tries to sue you, will it cover that kind of liability?

Thanks, I will PM ya in a minute. I just bought a very slightly used (55 hours on the HOBBS meter) simple fun crawler as I would put it. it is not a $60,000 race rig. It is a Honda powered 2 seater with an unorthodox tube chassis, Currie 9" HP axles, F&R hydraulic steering. It has a lot of good parts and pieces, but is a world away from being a competition buggy, but it is a lot of bang for the buck for what I paid for it.

Check out similar ones at www.atmmonsters.com

These are made in south Georgia near Savannah I think.
They make a great farm vehicle/hunting buggy.
The company got it's start making scaled down monster trucks if you can believe that......that explains the unusual chassis design.
Mine is the Bulldog XL Rock Crawler with a 1.6 Honda/auto.

It will not be covered on the Homeowners insurance for theft or fire! I'm a Farmers agent and yes, we can insurance a rock buggy IF IT IS TITLED.

That is the rub, it does not have a title like a street legal vehicle would have or should have. It was purpose built for "off road use only" vehicle, and states so on the VIN plate !!!!!!!
It has a " Certificate of Origin for a Vehicle" from the state of Georgia..........WTH is that ??? Aparently Georgia does not have titles for off road vehicles. Guess it is like a tractor as far as ownership. But now that I think of it, I suppose tractors and such must be insured..." yes sir, I'd like full coverage for my D9 CAT please"

what if you roll and land on some redneck spectator and their family tries to sue you, will it cover that kind of liability?

That is one of my concerns over this toy crawler....what if someone gets hurt???????
I am most interested in liability. I would hate for it to get stolen or wrecked somehow, but I can survive that loss.........

Thank you for the replys so far

the policy for liability on a rig running trails like we do would be Insane.. Think of all the risks we have out on the trail..

Geico wants to know "how many inches" my truck is lifted, i told them 3" so i guess i better lower my rig a bit ;)

Sure you could always insure it as an ATV... Or a tractor for that matter. Just don't expect full coverage. But if all you are looking for is coverage for liability and medical, that would be the way to do it.

That's just because Geico sucks! :flipoff2:

Actually, you would be more apt to use your liability coverage driving on the street than driving in the woods.

I have a title from another state, since I can get tags on it here in PA (no fenders or VIN tags, and I really don't care anymore) - does it need to be registered, or just have a VIN?

I would REALLY love to find one company that would write:

My truck (DD/tow rig)
Her car ('05 Subaru)
My car (Modified '98 Trans Am, 2,000 miles a year, 15k stated value, no driving to work, just club drives/cruises and pleasure use)
My buggy (below)

Better question i think might be ANYONE have a company that they have FILED a claim with on one of these vehicles ??? what did they do/not do, etc... ?

There is alot of different companies that run "stated value" type coverage (too many to
even count) but which ones are even worth a crap or that will actually cover the claim.

I have enough trouble with my regular vehicles through normal insurance, let alone any of my stated value (not had a claim to date on these YET)

IMO
WHY would anyone want to run any buggy as a none titled vehicle ??? i understand some states are harder to do so then others, but once it is titled as ***** and appraised as custom ***** at such value. doesnt have to be street legal to title,
but can always make it so as well.

appraisals are CAKE, several companies do customs and modifieds.

YES i understand new manufactures run into more issues when trying to title then "custom or modified" vehicles, but as long as the state has the laws in place why not simply follow and get them TITLED correctly. My state is Easy enough really.

offroad only new manufactures is a easy way to say NOT LIABLE :)

That goes into a whole different topic than liability. I can see having coverage for theift and needed the appraisal, but I sure wouldn't try to claim any collision damages.

LOL, but if full covered it contains all the concerns expressed above PLUS.

Now not saying they will cover/ie deny the claim if offroad, but any on road
accident will be under coverage ( simple jump to next trail head, or even if you
do drive it regularly, etc...) IE take a camera like most everyone should ANYWAYS.
Submit it anyways, worst they can to is deny the claim, most try to for on road
anyways such is life :)

learned the hard way, and still fighting yrs later, so no offense to the above mentioned
agent but **** insurance, get it all in writing, take pictures and have a lawyer handy.

My independent agent has tried dozens of Ins. Co's trying to get a policy written for this thing. I am more interested in liability than full coverage........ as this is not a high dollar ride.

She has tried Safeco, Farmers, Travelers, etc, etc.

She thought she had it covered, and then the ins co. (she did not tell me which one) looked at the vehicle builder's web site and saw the "roll cage" and then said they could not write a policy because of the cage. It has a double rear tube cage with side tubing....very safe. The cage/frame tubing is overbuilt if anything......WTH is this all about ???

These companies write for Polaris Rangers and Razors all the time. They have POS cages compared to this thing and the POLARIS run a lot faster than my Honda/transaxle powered rig.!!!

What's up with this crap ???????

My agent just emailed me today to tell me that after trying dozens of ins. co's, no one will insure my little Honda crawler for liability............!!!!!!!!!! WTF ?????????
She found one that will write it for physical damages only...
....for the small price of only $1000 a year. Well kiss my:censor:

This is pure :censor:
This crawler was built by a reputable company...not some junk yard jewell put together with a stick welder and exhaust pipe bent with a harbor fright pipe bender.

The ins co's write policies for the Polaris Razor and those things go 60+ MPH......My Honda is geared so low it tops out at 35 !!!!!

find out your state laws on assembled vehicle, or new manufacture. And they will vin number it and off you go.

a company ok (reputable ?), but i believe even "stick welder and exhaust pipe bent with a harbor fright pipe bender. " can insure there crap if they wanted to :) LMAO

with vin tags
