Hey Guys

I am toying with the idea of installing a complete (with e locker and disc brakes) rear end out of a 95 FJ80 into my 85 FJ60 when i do my SOA swap in a month or so.

The only problem i forsee is that the pinion flange is about 2-3" closer to the center then on the FJ60. Would this cause vibes on the street or would the d-shaft compensate for the angles because the flanges will still be square to each other?

Anyone see this as a problem? How about a cure? Anyone here done this swap?

Thanks a bunch for any info on this!

the problem i see is the fj80 axle is wider than and fj60 axle. any other reasons for wanting to swap other than the elocker and disc brakes? those two sound like good reasons by themselves.

Nope, those are the 2 reasons, those and the 4.10 gearing of course! I found a few complete rears for a decent price. Just trying to figure out, how the offset will work. I can make up for the width with BS on my wheels. I have to buy new ones anyway!

Anyone know anyone thats done this?

Thanks

I don't see this being a problem. Quite the opposite to me, wider is better. I like the idea of every inch you lift your rig (tires, suspension, etc.) to go 1-1.5" wider. Example: if you go up 6" w/ SOA and go from stock 28" to say 37's, that's 10.5" of total lift, so I would go 10.5" wider.

Thanks, but i need new wheels anyway, so i am probably going to buy them to make up for the additional width but probably keep them each 1" further out, so for a total of 2" wider with a FJ80 axle installed

I know of two people who've done it: Peter Straub from somewhere up in Canada; and Jason something-or-other (http://www.yankeetoys.org/black900rr/jasons62/rearaxle/). If you're on the LCML, you should be able to find either of the two or someone who can put you in touch with them. Probably some more people out there, but not too much info goin' around about it...

Dude, just do it!!!!!

Sorry, dude, no harm meant.... I can't tell you how many time stuff like this has been right under my nose.

In my experience I'd say 1 out 2 trucks that get more than a 2" lift will have some type of vibration that needs dealing with. 2 - 3" over the length of a 60 rear shaft is not much.... I'd go for it.

word. if i put a fj80 rear axle in i would go ahead and put an fj80 front axle in too. i also believe in the extra width. i lifted my truck 3 inches but went about 4 inches wider for stance.

anybody know about how much stronger the rear fj80 axle is compared to stock fj60 sf?

Cool

Looks like its a go, the only thing i am concerned about is vibes
