I don't like to modify or tap on OEM Toyota wiring, all my overloading electrical equipment is billed on a separate system with one kill switch that disconnects it from the positive pole of the main battery and leave the OEM wires intact.

The temperature in the engine compartment is very high in summer, this can kill any electronic device including the Bluetooth OBD1 scanner Toyocom.

I drive with the scanner connected and operational at all times, mainly for monitoring the coolant engine temperature, on top of that I have a dry sensor connected to the engine head and Engine Guard device for those catastrophic events of quick discharge of all the coolant from the engine, in a case like this the reading of the coolant temp is useless.

Installing the electronic device in the cabin near the AC will help with the longevity of the scanner

Used a PC printer cable the scanner has 4 wires, two green orange and brown. You need to split the scanner wires a and make it longer pass it through the firewall and then solder the end back to the scanner wires and position it somewhere in the cabin .

Works grate

I like that idea, I might look into relocating mine as I rely on it daily!

I have 2 units SN0007 and SN0225. 007 works perfect as expected and 0225 does not work at all.

I talked with J F it seems the subcontractor changed the quality of the PCB processor components in the last 2 batches. Many people that payed 90$ become angry at him so he stopped. This is his hobby he did this for fun, its not fun anymore.

Yeah above my pay grade as well on the ecu side. I was just wanting a cable extension to move it in the cab. I was trying to find a male to female cable but seems to be unobtainium.

That's a shame but I totally understand where he's coming from!

@voodu3 M/F connector cable, no good it is impossible to pass DLC1 connector through the cable hole in the firewall. It is too big you can pass cable only through the rubber diaphragm

Not if you can depin the connector.

I'd clean that nasty center console. That's disgusting

@Desert Dino So just 4 wires in that cable? I definitely want to attempt this as well, is that the ob1read scanner that you have and do you think my toyoscan also has just 4 wires?

So I cut into my TOYOCOM, the successor to the OB1READ, and it's 11 wires bundled with a foil shielding. I still plan on extending it and placing it into the cabin to try and keep alive longer, I just don't see it lasting long in the engine bay. My serial number was SN0231 and so far it's working great. It was hit and miss connecting to my cell phone note8 but connects very well to a spare lg g3 where its dedicated to just connect to the toyocom. Hopefully JF can weather the storm and find a way to make them work for everyone, it's a neat device.

I checked in with JFB yesterday and he’s working on an upgrade for the current toyocom units. He’s not going to stop making them. They are on hold til he gets the power and connectivity issues sorted out. FYI

That's good to hear, my unit works pretty well but does have some odd connection issues depending on the phone I use.

@Ty94LC although you have 11 wires only 4 are in use in any case, what i would do is extent all of them and connected by color.
