Gun owners in CA cannot use a glove box as the "locked container". You can put a gun in a locked case in a locked glove box. That is legal in CA...

I've been toying with the idea of installing a lockable slide out drawer under my driver's seat... Easy access and relatively hidden.

I have a Tuffy in between the two front seats, with elbow pad. You gotta mont off center a little bit to compensate for E-brake and Driver seatbelt. I have it mounted solid.

Me too... but as I mentioned earlier in this thread, I am looking for something in addition to that.

And by the way, welcome to mud....
I'm always thinking on fab projects. I have been thinking of 1/4 pannel storage accessible from outside. Key or magnetic.

I have thought about an outside storage access on the passenger side rear too but my fab skills are crude.

I'm definitely interested. The cardboard of my 62's glove box is deteriorating badly, so a metal replacement would be nice. Be great to be able to key the lock to your own vehicle's key too, so you've still got that for consistency. Of course I would think a decent locksmith could do that for you with the right tumbler.

Maybe I could use a gas door cylinder. It would be easy (I think) to be able to get it keyed to your ignition key... although it probably wouldn't be as secure as a more serious lock.

I wouldn't necessarily need a lock keyed the same. A different key wouldn't bother me, but some may not care for extra bulk on their keychain.
