I have a FJ60 front axle housing that I widened on one side. I am looking at axle shaft options. According to Trail gear they have their longfield sets available for different model toyotas. One of their custom housing(can't remember the name at the moment) takes inner axles in which one of them is only 3/8" shorter than what I need. They keep such shafts in stock and I wouldn't have to have a custom shaft made which is about 200 bucks more money. My question is: If I use that inner shaft, would it be a big deal if 3/8" less spline was in the carrier side gears?

You only have about an inch coverage anyway. I would not personally cut that engagement in half.

That being said, it'd probably be fine. Probably..
