How does one go about cranking up the inline injection pump on a 13BT. And how much is the recommended amount of increased pump preassure. Thanks

It's an inline and not rotary pump. I'm a fairly confident back yard mechanic so if I can get the proper intructions for this proceedure I should be fine.

Never heard of anyone upping the pressure on an inline 13B-T pump yet
If you are looking for more power IMO FIRST instal a good Pyro and Boost gauge and get baseline numbers from the engine in stock tune. Then have a look at the injectors. Have em serviced or retipped and bring the crack pressures up to spec, by a qualified shop. Then play with the boost a little by shimming the wastegate or installing a "turnbuckle" in the rod. Grainger valves or Boost control valves help too. You likely get better power and less smoke from this alone.
Put a good free flowing 2.5" exhaust on it. Then when you know you are getting good air flow in and out of the engine, play with the fuel screw and tune it according to the pyro.

Greg B could probably chime in on this one as he is in this process on his own 74, and is noting the performance, egt. boost info along the way.

No, my BJ40 is sitting at my parents place on a farm out by Bashaw, it needs a motor and some major work. I'm going to put a coilover suspension in it, since I'm not in too much of a rush to get it done since the FJ45 is the priority. Thanks

There is no 13BT engine manual on that site. And the 3B pump is different being that its a rotoary.

Alright so I take it all that i have to do is adjust the stop screw on the boost compensator to increase the amount of fuel. Correct? What is the max amount of turns for the stop screw? I like to stay under the max, but a little more than stock. In a early Cummins engine with a rotary pump it is a one turn max of the adjustment screw.

keep in mind that are not a magical recipe to turn more diesel onto you engine .. so with a boost gauge and Pyrometer your are able to view how much EGT you have and you can play with your diesel ..

safe numbers are 800 to 1200ºF ( max 1250ºF ) more than that maybe you melt your pistons ..

remeber that .. in a diesel engine, more diesel than air ( more diesel than the engine can burn ) means more temp ..

Yes, I'm very aware of the EGT temps and have recommended the guy that owns the cruiser to get an EGT gauge. EGT's are probably the most overlooked thing when guys are chipping there trucks. I guess that is why you see the odd engine with the pistons melted in the cylinders. I was just trying to find out if someone has done this before so that I can get in idea of how much to crank up the pump. There is a guide bushing does that have to be adjusted as well as the stop screw or does one jsut adjust the stop screw on the boost compensator.

Yes, there is a manual on that site. It is the 3B manual, as it also works for the 13BT. The manual is for the inline pump 3B and 13BT. It should walk you through the adjustments you want.

It only gives a page on the boost compensator. So what I was wondering if you can adjust just the stop screw without adjusting the guide bushing? Or is it if you adjust one you have to adjust the other as well?

I would talk this through with a good shop. Try Allied Holmes Fuel Injection Al / Colin / Tom 1.800.320.8166

More fuel will not help much, and may actually do damage if your nozzles are not up to snuff. Get the tips checked, and have the crack open pressure checked and set to the top side of the book.

As others have mentioned...make sure you have the air to use the fuel...

FU96 and FU97?

I've never adjusted the fuel...yet...so defer.

Well...once on a 3B/AXT set-up...using the locknut and screw on the backside of the pump.

Yup found that and printed it out. I was hoping someone had already adjusted the fuel and could give me an idea of how much adjusting is required. But I guess not, I'll have to talk to Tim and find out the whole situation.
