Guys, not sure where to post this.. so I'll put it here. I ran into this post while over on ClubB5, which is essentially ih8mud for Passat owners. The similarities are quite amusing: over here we all get CDL switches, over there it's the Euroswitch. Here it's how big of tires will fit, there it's how low can I go, yet both are into swapping suspensions and the ongoing discussion of synthetic oil. Ok, maybe I should have posted this in chat after all...
Anyway here's the company, http://www.mikadotech.com/index.html they make these in-dash garage door openers, that work with just about every home garage door system. So instead of the big thing on the visor, you've got this OEM looking button on the dash.. if you've got "rolling codes" then you buy this converter to mount to your garage wall for another $20. The coolest part is that being a ClubB5 member, you get 20% off. I asked them if they'd like me to extend that offer to some Land Cruiser enthusiast friends of mine, and of course they said yes, so in essence thanks to me ih8mudders now get 20% off too!
The remotes are $59, with the converter they're $75. I just called to place my order, the rolling code converter, in dash switch for the 80 and in dash switch for the Passat came out to $108, plus $9 in shipping. So I not only do I pimp out our garage cars a little more, but I also freed up the existing two remotes that I can put in the Taco & motorcycle, so I don't have to jump out and run to the keypad anymore! Can't wait to get this stuff next week, and get it installed, I'll post back what kind of a job that ends up being, but they say it's very simple. Thought it was cool they used an 80 dash for their flyer...
