Hi Guys,

When I did a search, i don't recall that someone mentioned about the sample of Bill Of Sale. Could someone please PM me a sample of it?

Another question, where to get DRL, from Toyota or any other sources?

Thanks,
Alex

Ah yes Daytime Running Lights. I was all about Recall Letters or something.

It is a DYI project if you wish. I'm sure there is factory parts as well. Herb Peyrl imported 2 80s last year, someone should ask him for a description.

Hi Alex,

If you are anywhere in the lower mainland you can look at my DRL setup. It's just a relay and some short jumpers. Cost $9.00 IIRC. It took about half an hour. Cheers, Greg.

Greg,

Where did you get the relay, dealer or somewhere else? I am selling my the cruiser to my sister in law and she is Montreal. If she changes her mind, i will post in here in For Sale section. Its a 93 with 158K and has front/rear locking diffs.

Thanks,
Alex

It's a Bosch 5 prong? relay, available at any auto supply. It really was a fairly simple DIY job.

Greg,

Do you have a part number for this relay and some brief instructions where this relay should be installed?

Thanks,
Alex

Cdn Junk has a DRL adapter. Senses power from the coil or a sp wire, and tells it to turn on. Supposed to be a simple install, and the price is right...

Go to "Automotive" search using "daytime", and it should come up.

i have put in the $25 canadian tire model. It works and is a very easy install but it involves wrapping a wire around a plug lead for a signal so it ain't exactly elegant.

a shop wired my truck for me before I knew better. I do not know what they did but ever since my headlight switch is hot and turns on all my accessories!

I used the $25 Canadian tire module as well. Make sure you use the version for Toyotas. This is because they switch the ground at the headlight (not the hot). I wired the module directly to the battery and installed the module just in front of the battery. Seems to work well but the wire wrapped around the plug lead does look funny.

Hi Riley,

Thanks for the DRL info. I will get it at Crappy Tire and install it. Do I need to install it before the Fed inspection or not? By the way, what do the check during Federal inspection besides the VIN#?

Another question, what did you do with Anchor Mount kit, from which vehicle did you get it?

Thanks,
Alex

any anchor mount kit in the glovebox will do. I also believe you could get away with telling them the tie downs are an anchor mount.

Alex,

The Bosch 5 pin relay I used was one that I had kicking around in my goody box, probably bought many years ago. I'm sure that Lordco, Napa etc. still carry them. Open the fuse box in the drivers side engine bay. Locate the headlight relay and the 7.5 amp charging fuse. When you flip the Bosch relay over you see the 5 pins. #85 runs to the switched side of the charging fuse, the left side of the 7.5 amp fuse. I cut the wire, yellow with a blue stripe, and used heat shrink to splice them back together, with the jumper to the Bosch relay included. Pin #87 on the Bosch relay needs a jumper to the #1 pole on the headlight relay in the fusebox, this pin is the one closest to the fender and the driver. The wire I tapped into was red with a white stripe. Poles #30 and 86 on the Bosch relay run to ground, which is a short jumper to the mounting bolt. The middle pole also #87 is not used. I mounted the relay just aft of the fusebox on the fender where there is a handy 6mm bolt. Elegant? Maybe not, but effective nonetheless. My truck is a 96, so the colour of the wires may not match but the fuse box should be the same. HTH, Greg.

Alex - I'm not sure what you mean by Federal inspection, do you mean RIV? or at the border?

During the RIV inspection (which can happen a couple of months after bring it in to Canada) they check the DRL, anchor mount but not much else except the VIN.

You also need a safety inspection here in BC. That needs to happen before insurance I think.
