I hope I can find an importer or any of you know of someone that can help.
I drove my 96 80 series from central America to the u.s just to be stopped at customs in Laredo. I tried crossing twice but the last time I have been informed that since my vehicle is a 96 and considered a 96 even though it was built on 07/95 that it will have to wait until next year. Which is just a few months away.
I was almost given the go ahead the second time. I provided my hs-7form and my 3520-1 epa form but since it was built in Japan. I have to conform to a b.s formal entry form #7533. Never heard of this. This was at the colombia intl Bridge in Laredo. They basically said have a customs broker do it.
The guy at world trade bridge in Laredo was much easier to deal with but his only issue is that its a 96. Even though I have a print out of 07/95 build. His advice it to wait it out 2 months before driving it in and he fills out form 7501. No more than 1 hour wait and I drive it in.
I found a place to store it on the Mexican side but in reality do not want to leave my 80 there for more than I have to. I have tried pleading my case about mfg date on their docs. It was a no go and since he signs all entries. He would not do it.

Yeah you should have gotten a broker in advance although you still might have been stopped because of the 1996 model year on your paperwork. Bummer. Call a customs broker and then wait it out.

Thanks guys!! Ryan is on it.
So far it's been a great road trip. Tikal Guatemala throughout the peten and to veracruz México. The 80 performed flawless. Average mpg just over 23 mpg loaded with 3 adults. It has a 1hdt.
