Impending move to Santa Fe

Lovey is moving to Corrales.

Even weirder than SF... in a vastly different kind of way. Placitas or way-out-west in RR would be my recommendation. Or Pakko.

Lovey:

Looking to buy or rent?

Sounds like HJ47's place in Santa Fe is up for rent again.... (at least, he sent me an email saying so a day or two ago).

Corralles to Santa Fe wouldn't be THAT bad of a commute though...

We will be renting for 3 months or so while looking for a house.
Having sold 2 houses here leaves us with a good amount of cash in hand.
I think we should do really well in this market. I'm watching prices fall just about every week.

Looking forward to getting on my way!

Sounds like a decent deal to me then. My wife and I put in an offer on land up here recently, and the sellers simply took it. They played some kind of hardball right up until we gave them an honest to goodness offer, then somehow they were willing to take 30% less....

Seems like that's the market nowadays....

I sent Josh an e-mail too letting him know the link was dead, but if you'd be up for renting in Santa Fe....

Also, Santa Fe to the Sandia Park/Cedar Crest area is about an hour, and never any traffic to deal with. My mother used to drive that every day when I was a young kid. But the mountains are a bit farther from things (one grocery store, three restaurants, one hardware store...), which is also the nice thing about them. If I were looking at the Albuquerque area, I'd be looking at either the East Mountains or Corralles.

Can't be that weird if both Dan and I live here.

Just to mix it up a bit, I'm considering Corrales too. If it was up to me, I'd be in the E. Mtns. But my wife say NO!. Corrales is interesting because it feels like a quirky, rural small town, but you're 10 minutes from a Super Wal-Mart and giant shopping mall. It would still be a heck of a commute to SF but, again, the train is a decent option. It doesn't necessarily save you time but it is much lower stress than driving the hour each way every day in heavy traffic.

Rent a place in SF and then in Corrales. Then spend your hard earned earned money once you know which will work better for you.

Commuting sucks IMO, life's too short to waste it like that. And like Lovey said, prices are still falling. Santa Fe doesn't have all the big city crap available around ABQ, but if you find nearby mountains as well as art, fruits and nuts entertaining, it's a great place. I'd probably pick Corrales if I were cursed to work in the ABQ area, but there is no where down there I'd go and commute to Sfe. Besides, even SFe is probably cheap compared to where Lovey is coming from.

Cheap is relative, especially if where you're coming from is more expensive than where you're moving to. And SF's proximity to wheeling, fishing, hiking and camping is better than Albuquerque.

Try living in Australia: take the cost of living in New York City, double it, add 25%, and that is about what the cost of living is here. The joys of a socialist tax system.

I miss living in Santa Fe - of all the places I've lived in the US, Santa Fe is my favorite and is still home.

On the way. Left NJ this morning and taking a break in Terra Haute IN.
Should be in by Tues morning if I can find my way through the smoke

FWIW, the main house at the "compound" where I live in Corrales is up for rent. Three bedrooms, 2 baths, very open inside. Situated on a large property with an apple orchard, pool, lots of grass and down a dirt road with lots of privacy and quiet. The property is a little funky in the typical Corrales way, but the only real drawback is no garage. Several HDCers have been to the place and can provide an opinion if they think my description if off.

FWIW, I'd rather make the commute to SF than to Sandia or Albuquerque Uptown area (I've done both).

Smoke has not been bad at all most of the last week.

I have an apartment in Santa Fe. But thanks.
My wife will be out next week and we will start the house search right away.
Hope to be in something by August.
