Well, I'm a proud owner of an 80! 1993 great condition, higher miles but runs great. I'm owner #3. Quickie question, and I know everyones answer is gonna be do a search, and I am. oil pressure. at idle it near bottoms on the L on the gauge. step on gas and it rises to mid point. No psi gauge so kinda lost. Doesnt settle good with me, but who knows could be norm? And valves and head maint. any links. Not fam. with it but reminds me of a newer version of my 240z head. I'm a hybrid z car junkie too. In need of some good edumacation. wanna get in there and start wrenching. pretty excited to be a part of your guys forum. Like I told my wife today, I just got my forever truck. Its the truck I wish I could have had the year I graduated. I drooled over this truck in 93 reading my auto mags, and now, there is one in my driveway! My wife has all ready named him Big Buck Blue.

Welcome and congratulations.
How old is the oil in the engine? Mine will float middle to lower on old oil. Put in fresh and it is back middle to top for me.

Good luck, these things rock.

By the oil tag in the window it looks like its due in about 1k. We took a cruise tonight and I had a hard time driving cause my eyes were glued on the gauge. planed on the whole 9 yards when i tear into the valves and get them tuned up. They need it bad. sure nobody did them after warranty was up. He had oil changes but they neglected alot. All I know is I have a seal or something bad on the front hub/axle that worries me too. The pride I'm going to get from this truck is gonna be worth it.

On the oil pressure gauge, there are 4 lines. The middle two is the normal pressure range when the engine is running. If your gauge reads pretty close to those, then you're fine. It can even be slightly below the bottom of the normal range.

I've found that running a heavier oil in both my trucks tends to put that pressure gauge more into the normal range, while a lighter oil will let it drop slightly below that range.

Welcome :flipoff2: - congrats on your new ride. Alot of great info on this site that will keep you busy:D

I'll get some pics up real soon. I'm still cleaning the piss out of it now. Thanks for the info on the oil. Sounds like its just old. And my wife pointed out to me Its big blue buck. He's that grey/blue color. Its got the arb wench bumper (SCORE!!!) and it may have a lift on it. It seems just a tad bigger than the other ones I looked at. If so SCORE #2!!!!!!

Mine reads low just as your describing. I had my mechanic put his pressure tester on it and it tested with-in spec. On the low end but still passed. Had him throw the oil pump rebuild kit and and no change. I purchased my own testing kit since with the intention of keeping a closer eye on it but apparently it does not really worry me much as I've never tested it again.

Have the pressure tested, if it passes I would not worry about it.

Welcome aboard!

I had to clean up the contacts on my sending unit when I purchased my '94. After that it has worked flawlessly.
