Just wanted to check in and let you know that I'm at 219,000 miles and it doesn't feel like I've lost any power. I checked my dipstick the other day at around 4,800 miles into the current oil change and it doesn't burn any oil. This surprised me and makes me very happy. After picking up and 80 series i've been blown away at how much oil it consumes. Honestly other than looks the 80 is pretty disappointing. It is a maintenance whore and is really low on power. Granted the 200 has cost me some money in maintenance too. It is (for me) far superior in every detail.

"Honestly other than looks the 80 is pretty disappointing." - Haha ruh roh dems fightin' words!

Nice looking 200 right there though, great to hear it's been good to you, looking forward to my next 100k.

My 29k mile LX is hanging in there ;). Glad to hear yours is solid. My old FZJ80 never used any oil at 120k+ miles. Only needed tire's and normal maintenance plus the heater hose into the firewall that was a bitch to get in.

Great to hear I'm hoping for the same with my 08 model currently at 130 right now. As for the comments on the 80 I completely disagree from my own experience with a 95 driven to 200K and the half a dozen we have in our club. The maintenance required on the 80's largely depend on the previous owners and how they maintained them. I don't know anyone that purchased one new so they were all on a 2nd or 3rd owner by the time we owned them. Around the 170/180 mark mine started to burn a qt per oil change I wouldn't call that excessive at all and it didn't bother me from what I've read here that was pretty normal for many. The head seals eventually broke down on mine and rebuilding the head solved those issues. I do agree on the low on power point a loaded and built 80 can be a dog at HWY speeds but my main focus when I bought it was never for a HWY queen I bought and built it up for hitting trails and getting off the beaten path and for that it was truly in its element. In 10 year I owned it I didn't have a single complaint. It still had the factory starter, alternator and AC compressor among other components when I sold it.

Thanks for letting us know... I am at 180k and even though mine is running strong I keep asking myself how much longer can this go like this? Mine feels faster than when I got it at 100k.

I did the headgasket on my 80 at 230k. At that time it was using a quart every 5k and after that there is 0 consumption. I can attribute that to valve stem seals. Except for a slow drip from the rear main or pan gasket, I've repaired all of the oil leaks on the front of the motor. The 80 has been a great rig! It could definitely be faster but it is what it is...a tractor motor!

my 2016 200 series has 34k miles on it and im hoping i can ride it until 500k. I have an 80 series as well and it's been sitting at the shop due to replaced radiator and now water pump. I think the 80 series is a great platform because of the solid front axles and front and rear lockers. I have an open diff 80s so for me the benefit is the solid front axle. In my honest opinion coming from a young guy (35) trying to look at buying old cars like the current 80 series i own and older sports cars like the mk3 supra turbo, id rather go with the toyotas in the 2000s going forward. Their parts are so much more durable and well built.

I traded an 06 v8 4runner for my 2016 lc200. It had 180k miles on it. I bought it at 145k and I've had 0 repairs on it from 145k-180k. The only money ive spend on the 4runner was play stuff like lift, tires, stereo. It was extremely well built and honestly the 2uz engine on that 4runner was by far the best as far as power and pep compared to the lc200 or the gx470 that i own now.

the 80 series i own at 233k with a rebuilt head gasket at 165k has had problems one after another and i've only put 4k miles on it, as i just use it as a rock crawler.

some of you guys may say i might have bought a bad one and maybe i did however if you research 80s and 90s toyota they have way more problems to be concerned about than 2000s and up toyotas. Like the mk3 turbo supra engines has head gasket problems due to lack of torque applied just like the 80 series.

Im just saying. :)

196,000 miles. My 09 is running great despite the harsh conditions it is subjected to. Insane amount of dust every day, 1000 miles per week, 90mph highway and off-road every day. Idling many hours each day. Some days it runs 12 hours without shutoff. lease roads out here look like something out of a 3rd World war zone. Usually go down them about 40mph just to get the painful bumps over with sooner.

Have replaced water pump and just replaced fluids in diffs and transfer case bc they were looking terrible. Passenger seatbelt doesn't retract. May attempt to lube it. Fixed driver's side mirror wobble. Patched radiator trouble spot.

Previous owner replaced fuel pump assembly and hatch locking mechanism.

I am considering replacing Transmission fluid but it looks clean. Maybe PO did it before I bought it. Nothing about it in Toyota's records.

I REALLY need prefilters on both the air intake and the cabin air filter but don't know how yet. There aren't really good spots to put a prefilter and have it accessible for cleaning. Changing both every 3 weeks.

We'll see how long the LC puts up with it all.

If you want the gold standard of both slow and low maintenance you should have bought the 3fe FJ80 .

Mine is at 212k and still burns no oil. It's glacially slow too!

Funny you should mention Calcutta...I spent some time there a few years back. The roads were smoother.
So where are you? Nice to know that the LC can take those driving conditions.

Thanks for sharing. I think your story would make a great TT article, there are not many folks out there like you putting a land cruiser through the paces every day in those conditions and I find that very interesting as I think others would as well. I've heard of sale reps putting tons of HWY miles on LC's but its not as interesting. It speaks to those that doubt the brand is still as tough and reliable as those models that built the foundation of the brand. I'm in South Louisiana near salt mines where they drop 70 series LC's they buy out of South America down mine shafts to work in the salt mines for decades and they never see the light of day again. I've been trying to get a pass to get some pics and tell that story for some time as well. I hope your 200 keeps giving you many more reliable miles. I'd talk to Kurt @cruiseroutfit he may have some ideas for you on the prefilters for the intake.
