Symptoms:
Recently replaced spark plugs and noticed that 2 coils smelled like gas and were also covered in soot. Around the same time I detected a gas smell in the engine oil.

I replaced the engine oil today and it's definitely got a gassy smell to it.

No CEL lights are on. Engine runs smooth and idles smooth at 800 rpm. When I put it in Drive and brakes are on, rpm drops to 600 and is ever so slightly rough.

Should I replace the 2 coils?
Should I look into the fuel injectors or regulator?
Is there any point in getting this oil tested?

If the coils had soot on them and smelled of gas the spark plugs had most likely backed out. It may just be me, but used oil always smells like gasoline. Unless it is a diesel engine.

I got concerned today when I saw some white residue on the engine oil cap.

Today checked the plugs again. Some of them were really loose and under the 13 FSM specs. I saw a drop of oil out of one of the plug gaskets. I torqued them tighter to 16.

This time some of the coils smelled like oil. Idle does feel slightly smoother.

i will sometimes get the same residue on my oil cap when the engine is cold. This is just condensation. If your oil is still that color after the engine has warmed up then you have a problem.

Could loose spark plugs cause the oil to smell gassy? Could it have also introduced condensation?

I really don't think so. If it is just that little bit of water on the cap and the oil looks ok you should be fine.

Used oil always smells like gas to me. I don't think piston rings seal 100% so a little bit of gasoline gets into the oil. The longer you run the oil in between changes the more it smells like gas.

The crankcase needs to breath and gets moisture from the outside air.

The dealer recommended that I reprogram the air fuel ratio sensor.

Does this sound right?

Replace the PCV valve.
If your PCV hose is original, I'd order one with the valve. It's pretty cheap. I replaced my PCV valve last week and the aged hose introduced a vacuum leak that gave me weird idle issues until I was able to get a new one installed. Also get a new PCV grommet if it's original. Pretty easy and cheap to replace all three, and easier to just do it all together imo.

Yes I installed a new pcv valve last week.

The new oil doesn’t have the gas smell, but I’ll check again in 500 miles.

The old oil was gassy but the viscosity was still pretty thick.

What idle issues were you getting with the leaky hose?
