Anyone know who still sells idler arm braces? Or have any suggestions on how to beef up stock idler arm?

While reading about BJ spacers i came across alot of people saying 33" tires will burn through idler arms and im running close to 35"s and wheel kinda hard.

I'd just keep an eye on the bushings... And I don't see where you need to waste money. ESPECIALLY when you look at the torsional rigidity of them (idler arm braces)...

To my knowledge, they, like lots of other parts under these trucks are forged. So I don't see how sheet metal can make them stronger...

The bushings are cheap enough, and if you do that POS "H.D" "555" brand the chain stores sell, I'm gonna revoke yer man card;)

B/c I doubt you'll find a better made and stronger piece than the truck came from the factory with.

...uh, not unless you make one.

TC Idler Arms are beasts, stronger and still rebuildable.

opps, let me clarify... I was expressly thinking about the Downey idler brace and not another one when I posted that..

It's obvious there are exceptions...

Thanks for the info. I think ill just replace the bushings/seal, its probably due after 220k. If i start breaking/bending them ill consider the TC arm......or SAS.

The stock units are OK up to a point, but have seen plenty bent with 33"s. The braces help and are relatively east to make.

The real issue is if you run a locker in the front. I never bent an idler arm running 31s, until after installing a Lock Rite. After the install I would bend one every wheeling trip. Installed a aftermarket brace and only bent them every few trips out. I gave up on wheeling the IFS. That TC idler arm may just be the ticket.

I used to mow through idler arms. I usually bent them instead of messing up the bushings. I even broke the end off a centerlink once. The idler arm gussets did help prevent the bending, ALOT. I used downeys and NWOR and they both worked. I think you could make one pretty easy as well. Just my experience.

The TC unit appears vastly superior though but I hate to spend too much on IFS since it usually gets cut off down the road anyway :).
