I've had an idle up switch (just a generic one) on my dash for some time. I tied it into the vacuum switching valve (vsv) that my AC controls, using a couple diodes, so when I toggle it on the dash it idles up the engine a couple hundred revs until the switch is turned off.

My main reason for doing this is because in cold start mornings (like the other week at -25C) the diesel isn't happy and tends to rev really low for a while until it warms up a bit. I also have a hand throttle, but, this is just easier for a little blip in the revs. I also had the intent of tying my AUX button on my door lock fob to it.

I decided to buy an oem Idle Up switch off a... 76? I think? Don't recall. Off Fleabay AUS. Including the pigtail harness. I paid more than I should admit for a switch.. oh but it's so nice :) :)

I got it today, but was disappointed to see it's a momentary switch, likely was tied into some ECU in the newer vehicle it came from. I thought it would be like the hazard switch (press in to turn on, press in again to turn off).

Options... I could put a digital flip-flop or timing circuit behind it, so it maintains the connection for a period of time... or, has anyone removed the button FACE and replaced the innards?

OR even better... is it easy enough to just add a spring or something to MAKE it stay on?

This is really cool! I want one.

What about a latching relay?

That would stay energized though. A "flipflop" takes a signal (momentary press) and holds the power... then momentary press again turns it off. Could do that I guess... was hoping for something simpler though

True. You would have to remember to turn it off. Why not buy a hazard switch and swap the face plate? Might be easier in the long run.

I actually have one (spare). Do the face plates just come off? I guess I could try it myself on the switch here.. just nervous to damage such a rare switch :) :)

Ruin the hazard switch first and see!

I think @NLXTACY knows some things about switches.

So the latching switch I have, the face comes off. But the newer idle up switch the face is part of the whole switch.

Here is the new idle up switch apart, with the old faceplate (off the other switch) in the background.
