I purchased Idemitsu transmission fluid for my '08. 5 qts $35.
Amazon product ASIN B07M94B6V6
Idemitsu makes the tranny fluid for Subaru. When I had my Outback, I would change the ATF when I did the engine oil change. After about 4 times, it appeared the ATF was mostly new.

1) Anyone else use this ATF for their 200 series? The rear label says it is for type WS transmissions.

2) I'm going to change whatever ATF comes out from the tranny-pan drain plug. Anyone know about how much will come out so I'll know if I'll need more than 5 qts?

I think it’s just under 4 qts for a pan drain IIRC.

There’s a couple of ways to do it. Just a pan drain a few times in row (not great) or the flush as outlined in the video. Your choice.

This thread, especially the 4th or 5th post has good info/links. Transmission fluid exchange or flush&refill

I have not used that brand of ATF but if it covers WS you should be good to go. Good luck!

Idemitsu is factory fill motor oil on a lot japansee vehicles. i would use ws based on the explanation from professor john Kelly. See YouTube video below. Aisin has a ws fluid on rock auto that would be similar. Aisin manufactures our transmissions.

12 quarts gets you plenty to do a pan drain and flush via the cooler lines.

@RT Cruiser I agree with @tominboise. I would also add that if doing a flush, especially without a helper, or for the first time have a 2-3 qt margin on hand. It’s easy to blow out some good fluid. In general Tom is right but if the technique is not spot-on you’ll blow past 12 qts by a bit; not a lot but 12 qts requires ‘skills‘ that I have only 30% of the time.
