Oh and on the oil pan.

Clean that thing up really well, get the crud out between the skid plate and the bottom of the pan and then put some diesel or kerosene in the pan, a quart or two should be fine, and let it sit for a day and see if any of the spot welds have failed. It is not uncommon for older oil pans, especially ones of that vintage, to leak between the skid plate and the bottom of the pan.

I finally got around to pulling the rest of the rod bearings. And there it was, number 3,4 rods..... spunem both... Looks like this one will come out and get the treatment......

Man! that rod cap is toast!

so yer sayin I prolly should get new push rods for those two?

Hey, SHREG, what do you think was the probable cause of this disaster?

Great question, could have been run low on oil, it leaked really bad and thats why i tore into it in the first place. I noticed the water pump had also been replaced so I wonder if an overheating condition may have caused it.... I just don't know....I also have no idea how many miles were on the clock.....and maybe its why the PO gave up on it......

Saturday am I am going to get back into it....gunna take it day to day, I have some time on this one, I want it ready for spring...

Nothin better than 3 on the tree, The hum of a fine tunned F135 and a sunny spring day cruisen the river bluffs....thats whats drivin this project truck.....

Cheers

Most likely, lack of oil pressure/volume combioned with sustained (moderately) high rpm.

Mark...

I can "Dig It":bounce:

Hey, SHREG, are those bearings std. in size? Think this thing has been repaired once before? I read on another thread where a rod repair was made, but the rod bolts stretched and the event reoccurred:eek: just a thought:confused:

Good question, there are no indications that it has been rebuilt. I had to dig through 40 years of crap to get to most every bolt on this thing...

As for oil pressure, when I topped it off and ran it the oil pressure guage read in the normal range.... I suspect it was run dry do to the massive leak, im not kidding, this thing leaked out 5qts in aboot 3 hours....... I suspect thats why the PO gave up on her....

More pics this morning after I feed the dogs

Pics of my crank....... :-)... I may just go the rod bearing route...

Thoughts? Keep in mind, i will go through this thing in about a year or two after I finish my 69. I want a something for short trips, no more than 100 miles at a time and around town....In addition, I found a stamp on one of the bearings.. STD... Im thinking its a standard bearing...

Here is a shot of the two with spun bearings. They look pretty good actually

#2, this one had a good bearing in it...."Who works for number 2?"

Notice the screw heads on the oil pump. Looks as though someone has been in this thing a time or two. Im almost certain it has been rebuilt given the condition of the fastner heads and tabs..

That is nothing...

Get some 600 or so...dress it quick and call it good.

That thing will run a long time....just keep oil in it. ;)

Might want to take the oil pump down and remove the bottom cover and see what things look like inside there...

Thanks, I ordered the parts today. I also looked at spector for the clutch kit and they have a very complete kit for what seems like a good price.

Upon further inspection I think I know why my bearing failed.....

Cant believe I missed that

Hey,SHREG, that dino in the lower end is way too cool! are you planning on a copyright? If not, I was thinking about using it for my avatar, I'm getting a lot of negative feed-back on the one I have now. So,Man, by the new clutch statement, your planning on pulling the wobble stick out? Or just spiff it up a bit? anything else pop-out at you? Thanks, Fuzz

There is no copyright on Zilla that I am aware of. feel free to use it. Your avitar kicks ass...

Its a col shift, I will keep it that way. I love the three on the tree. Rod bearing should be in Tuesday night, with any luck I will be able to take this bird on a T-Day drive...... Im also chaging the oil bath to the new style filter..... Lots of progress this weekend....

Datta boy. No finer way to show your White Trash roots than to hand sand a crank and run 'er.:hillbilly:

FWIW, one of the wicked-est 2F engines I ever built at the shop ended up with a hand sanded crank after the machine shop bolted up the oil pan without bothering to install the oil pump delivery tube!  That motor ran like a raped ape, going 60mph in 3rd [H42] without a hint of vibration or load.

I'm sure you'll do fine.:)
