Long of short replaced the transmission and did a load of other work. Seems I forgot to refill the transfer case with gear oil. Drove around 30-40 miles, she started to make noise and before I stopped had a hard time moving forward.
She was hot as hell too.
I did put around 1.5C of gear oil in her. This is what she sounded like on the drive home.

Think she is smoked?
Thanks

Don't worry they are cheap. I just bought a spare one to install gears on. If you were closer to me I would give you a good deal on mine that I am about to pull out.

Just blows. So close to getting the truck ready for the summer and I forgot the oil!

Well have to find a good used t-case. Have the parts for a part time kit so that will be going in as well.

Mother ****er!

They are like 200 used.. I have one I tore down to put low range gears in but changed my mind and put them in a different one because it felt tight. I ordered the shims for the bearing but didn't want to wait so I built a different one.

Thanks for the faith.
I was at the point of working out the kinks with the lift, the next big undertaking was putting on the turbo.....
A Colorado member here hit me up so I may have something in the works. Wanna get this truck on the road!

If you can find a way to mudship one from Atlanta to you I will have one coming out of my truck in a few weeks. It has 280,000 on it but I chance the oil every year in it and it is going strong.

There was a guy parting out an 80 on denver craigslist not too long ago and he did have a TC. I thought about picking it up, but got lazy.

It was still moving when I pulled it.
Here is the plug with maybe 20 miles on it with oil in it.

And all is well. 4 1/2 hours kicked out the fried T-case and in with a local one with 200,000 miles. Drives nice, center lock works!

Someone needs to pick it up or its going to scrap. Its free!

I'm honestly surprised you smoked it that fast. In my younger more ignorant years I drove my 40 around for 6 months with an empty case until I spun the output bearing. And even then after a refill of 90wt it worked fine after.

Its not trashed but making noise. Not taking the risk of it crapping out when I am in the middle of no where.

Kinda sounded cool — like a race car with straight cut gears. But you were wise to avoid a big failure out on the trail.
