I've had similar problems. Be sure to check/replace your battery cables. I chased a lot of problems until I found a thread that recommended changing the cables out. Inexpensive fix and I haven't had any starter problems since.

well I took It to napa and had it tested again and the dang thing passed. So i asked if the solenoid worked and the guy decided to test it again and it failed. It wouldn't even turn. He tested it a few more times and couldn't get it to pass again. I bought the replacement and put it in on Sunday. It has been perfect ever since. So I think I got it but we will see. I gave napa the old one for the core charge. The new one has a lifetime warranty. Thanks for the help, guys!
The problem you describe is consistent with a bad armature in the starter. They work fine and then they don't. One simple test for this is to have someone hold the key in the start position (assuming that it isn't working when you do this) and tap the starter with a hammer. If it suddenly does it's job, you have a bad armature and its time for a new starter.
