We took the 80 up the mountain yesterday to visit with friends and it ran great. It slowed down as expected going up Saluda Grade but was at a respectable 55MPH. All in all it did very well. We are liking this rig the more we drive it. Put a ppair of Kickers in the front doors where there were only holes left by the PO. Combine with the other 2 sets of Kickers already in the truck it sounds pretty good.

We did 492 miles round trip today and brought this 92 home :D

Had lunch with Jerry and his lovely wife while in the area. A great day.

Great to see you guys and catch up, its been too long. Glad the trip was productive, it was fun watching Regina and Heather chat it up like old friends...

LOL, you are by no means interupting, this is an interactive thread.
I am not the Santa kind. I am building stock for future projects. I am taking my business in a different direction. While continuing to do fabrication work I am striking off into building 80 series trucks with GM Vortec power.

The overall scope will evolve as it goes but the basic idea is to take trucks with power train issues and convert them to Vortec 5.3L or 6.0L power, 4l60E or 4l60E trans and 60 series split case transfer case. Front axles will be converted to manual hubs creating an 80 that is no longer AWD but 2WD/4WD. All items related to the swap will be upgraded including new Griffin radiators, new fuel system, exhaust, power steering lines, AC lines etc. This will be the "basic" unit.

There will be many other upgrades also available such as complete new interior fom headliner to carpet, Complete body restoration and paint, new brake system, lift kits, axle rebuilds, locker installs, bumpers, sliders, skids etc etc. The pinical being essentially a new 80 from bumper to bumper that is road and trail ready.

Right now I am in the infancy of this business plan with our 95 80 being the first to receive this treatment. It will require considerable time and money invested, the cost of doing business. While working on the first 80 we intend to continue sniffing out deals on others with blown drive lines. Eventually I expect we will morf two vehicles to make one and will build up a stock of both usable drive line components and various other 80 parts.

Over 6 hours one way Chris, but thanks. I have 2 good motors and two good trans and T-case between the 3 I have now :)

I was looking through CL Sunday night to see what else is out there. I prefer the rigs with something blown in the drive line as it brings the price down a great deal. I am in no rush though as I have 3 already to deal with. A bumper and a half left to build on the FJC and it goes on the block.

Heather did a little off roading here at the farm yesterday. She was very surprised at how the 80 just walked up a fairly steep incline at idle in low range. I was running her through some off camber stuff and she did well. I am looking forward to her at the wheel at some parks in the future.

I put a set of BFG AT 31" on the 4RNR. Much better with the axle gearing over the 33" BFG KM2s w/Rock Rings. It feels like a go cart compared to my PU. It is a good parts runner and fun to drive. The wheels are 16" off a Tundra.

I was playing with a new gauge layout for the 80.

Some times you can't go to Auto Zone and say
"I need a fan shroud for an 89 Land Cruiser with a 5.3L Vortec and Griffin Radiator"

Thank you Johnny, you are too kind.

Very nice!

Thank you Ramon. I ended up having to add a bracket on the passenger side to hold part of the AC system that was attached to the original radiator and shroud.

I cut a big hole in the hood of the 95 80.
