I smell antifreeze in 4X4?

Hey does anyone know why I am smelling antifreeze when I put my hj61 in 4x4. I recently had it in 4x4 for a about a week off and on and always smelt antifreeze while in 4x4 then it would go away after i took it out of 4x4. Checked my fluid level was way down and my oil is still normal no milkshakes. My thermostat subsequently is now stuck wide open and my fluid level is staying normal as long as I dont put in 4x4. Any Ideas anyone?!!

maybe its leaking a bit above front driveshaft somewhere and the rotation of the front DS in 4x4 is flinging it onto a hot surface. maybe it isn't that its in 4x4 but that cold conditions go hand in hand with 4x4 in winter and you're using the heater more and a heating line is leaking onto something hot.

I have noticed the smell when in normal temps just busting around in the bush. Kida sucks feeling like something is wrong and not really sure why. Thanks for the help
