I'd love to go next weekend, but I need to take care of some bidness here with the family. Not enough time during the week to get things done.

I don't need beer to make the pipes sound good! They just are!

I wish I could make the High Holy Day excuse but the wife and I are putting our Wisconsin place into a trust. The only day we can meet with the attorney is Saturday. I figured since we'll be up that way we might as well open up for the season.
I knew I should have stuck with a less aggravating pastime! This is what's holding me up! These are the last two damn things I need to do to get it on the trail!
If it's not one thing it's another! I've hit a couple stumbling blocks and am scratching my head on what to do next!
The front drive shaft that was disconnected and in the rig when I bought it appears to be the wrong one! One of the flanges fits perfect yet the bolt holes on the other end are a 1/4 inch off. I was hoping to take it to a local shop to get it lengthened but having the wrong flange would make that fruitless! Now I'm on an elusive hunt for a pre-84 FJ60 series double cardan d-shaft that I can use.
The draglink I bought from Tony with the high steer kit is a tad too long and I need a shorter one. I was hoping to get the DOM wall tube cut to length (26") then drilled out and tapped to accept the TRE. Nobody wants to touch it and trying to find a decent machinist in a city of 6 million is close to impossible!!!

Sorry for the vent. I feel a little better now.
Venting proved to be the best thing I've done this week. While relating my tale of woe to a friend who restores Porsche's, he hooked me up with the Machinist to gods! My drag link is getting tapped and will be done Monday afternoon. He said the only issue would be for him to make the fine point metric thread tap used on those beefy 80 series TRE's I'm using. He took it upon himself to make one of his own! I asked him what that would cost and his reply was "Buy me some coffee sometime and that's all you owe"! I was dumbfounded and pressed him for a dollar amount and I got the same answer. He also said I get the tap as a keepsake because he'll never use it again.
All I am allowed to say about this man is that he works at a large factory on the Northside of Chicago and has taken care of many coppers. It's his way of paying back for something the police did for him in the late 60's.
So while I'm gloating about my score of a fine machinist, I also found another score of importance. Tires. New tires to be exact. Two new Goodyear 35x12.5x15 M/T tires. With the sticker still on the tread. For $125 each. I have two more coming next week. This gives me at least a season to save up for some larger ones next year!
Almost forgot to mention....I'm getting my driveshaft done by these guys. driveshaft chicago - Google Maps They come highly recommended!
I guess the key to it is not giving up wheeling and venturing into odd ball german rattle traps.![]()
