Hello All, My First Post.

I have an opportunity to get my hands on a 1982 BJ60 with less than 200 thousand km's on it by one owner. It hasn't been driven much at all in the last 10 years. It is in British Columbia and the body is rusty I am told (haven't seen it yet).

I am told that it gets up and runs with no problems, needs the brakes done and there is a seal somewhere that needs to be fixed (a bit of blue smoke comes out the back I'm told).

If I am going to buy this, what do I need to watch out for Rust wise and anything else?

Also, does anyone know how hard it is to get these to pass air care programs?

Additionally, from this limited info, what kind of price range would you think this LC would cost?

Thanks,

Andy

Oh and if you have any idea about mpg or L/100km?

Cheers!

mileage is good in stock form, im not sure if diesels are required to pass air care, if it hasnt run much in the last few years the governer diaphram may be cracked- this would cause a smoking issue at idle and on the road. I believe 82 BJ60's had the 4 speed, and the 5 speed came out in 83 which would be a bit better for highway mileage i would think.
Canadian cruisers all tend to have rust problems, the best ways to deal with this is cut it out before it spreads and get the body work done, as for the frame you can get someone to build you one or get one from the states.

If you have more diesel related questions youll get more help in the diesel section, dont forget to read the 60 and diesel section FAQ'S (frequently asked questions) and welcome to mud!
