because it doesn't have power steering, its hard as hell to steer in the parking lot..

old people are scared of it..

it is SOA and leans a TON when the shocks arent cranked down..

it has rust, but it doesnt bug me

i have put dents in it and it still looks good

i drove it 300 miles one way, wheeled it, drove it another 100 miles and i havent done anything but put gas in it :)

EVERYBODY stares at it when i drive around town, i still dont know if i am getting the "WTF is that thing" look? or the "that thing is safe???!?!" look or the "sweet pig man" look?? probably the first 2

with the 2F, it doesn surprisingly well on gas

the rear window is hillarious to watch roll up and down... it falls down or shoots up...

the girlfriends mom thinks i am nuts and it's unsafe

i have always wanted a pig, some people say their ugly, but i really dont see it.. i guess its like a kid, becuase its mine, i think its beautifull... :)

whats your reason??

oh ya, i can take 4 people wheelin with me, carry all of our junk and everyone stays warm

I cant put a finger on it exactly. Its ugly to most, but a gem to me. No power steering so no-one borrows it. Orange and white late 73, so a somewhat rare color. Heat that will cook you like a sauna, and that electric back window. More folks are surprised it has an electric back window than anything else about the truck.

Dutifully carried me across the country twice, got 16-17mpg in the 6k+ mile round trip. Let it sit at my friends ranch for 6 months untouched, and hopped in, cranked over(same hooked up battery I left it with) after a bit to get fuel back to the carb and drove it another 100+ miles home th other day.

Faithful to the end. Thats what I like about it.

I hat emine right now because I cant get it to run right for anything no matter what I do or how many times I go through the same s***.

I'm not sure why i like the pig so much, i just have ever since i first saw them and thought wtf is that?? :D
i've always liked them better than the 40 series and i think henry cubillans poem sums it up pretty good.
plus i like to be different, almost everyone has a 40 series.

They just Rawk...I believe they are unlike any other of the Land Cruisers...

I may get lynched here for this...but to me they are kinda like the first LC designed wagon...I mean you had the FJ45LV's...but really they are just a stretched 4 door 40 series (very basically but super fawkin' cool)

Beyond disticntive bodies...I get craaaaazy looks all the time...mostly...the WTF???

but I love it...no matter what...rust and all...stink and all...

Can you fill a Pig-less brother in here?

Brother TJ,

The poem as requested. Remember these are holy words.

Why "Iron Pig"?
"Picture a long, wide mud pit... you know what I'm talking about. The kind of pit filled with stinky, black, chunky mud the consistency of a thick stew... the smell of rotting vegetation is in the air, horseflies and dragonflies buzz overhead, and an old swaybacked cow chews its cud contentedly at the edge of the water, swinging its tail slowly as the morning dew dissipates and the sun dries a thin layer of the mud, deceiving you, beckoning...
"In the middle of this long, wide mud pit, wallowing contentedly, is a rare beast. Its weight draws it deeper into the mud, but somehow it is still moving, slowly, ever so slowly... its form hints at its strength, yet it moves with a certain grace that seems impossible for its bulk... nothing about this beast is delicate, and yet it possesses a strange beauty, a sense of timeless appeal.... you feel slightly repulsed, yet strangely attracted... you can sense its feral nature, its danger, but you can tell that this beast is somehow noble, a true master of its environment...
"Is it a wild boar, or a Cape buffalo? Perhaps a scarred old African bull elephant?...
No, the noble beast that has captivated your attention and perhaps your heart is a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55, and now you know why those who of us in the know, those of an enlightened nature, those of us who believe call it an "Iron Pig". It is a sign of respect, of admiration, a fitting tribute...
By Henry Cubillan

------------------------------------------

Many in this realm attribute the first use of the term to the First
Knight. Of course the First knight takes his title from the noble beast
itself, so the logic gets a bit circular... (or simply twisted, but we
won't go there...)

In truth, the origin of the name of the beast is lost in the mists of
the past (or maybe just in heaps of BS...) The villagers near the keep
have always called them thus. And as the First Knight is known, so are
known the roving bands of wayfarers who have also mastered these
terrible mounts. Some nights the skies around the keep twist with the
reflections of blinding and unearthly lights dancing behind the high
windows. The roaring of the Pigs oft rends the fearful quiet in the
woods surrounding the walls. Strange tracks can be found in the loam of
the forest where the beasts and their riders have passed. And the bones
of lesser mounts are sometimes seen protruding from beneath these signs
of their passage. Braver and more foolish lads from the town sometimes
venture to these daunting walls when the midnight lights flare. They
claim that there are wizards at work within, wielding the very lightning
of the gods and the fires of the deeper earth as they forge strange
objects of unknown purpose, using tools that defy description for these
ignorant farmers sons.

While the First Knight was the first to reveal the name and nature of
the beast in this world, The Iron Pig has always been the Iron pig

indeed, but it would take up alot of sticky. there are a few ramblings from Henry and many, many from whom i believe to be the first knight, Mark W.

i think i have them all saved on its own file on the puter. some of them are pretty long.

Vintage stuff. I've gotten a glimpse or two of some of the old LCML remblings, but I'm relatively new to the clan/cult/sty. When I start working on my piggie again this winter I hope to engage the "tech" side of my feeble little brain again. Been fun just driving it all spring/summer without having to do hardly anything to it. Time to do some maintenance/upgrades now!

Nice verbal expressions on the growl many will hear fumbling through the forests and trails.
Sets the precedence!
