Hey everyone,
I am looking for an FJ80 (or Lexus equivalent), prefer one with factory lockers. I am located in Los Angeles.
I am willing to spend up to $15k. My primary concern is a rig that is in incredibly good physical and mechanical condition.
I prefer a California car, but I'm willing to drive it back depending on location and condition.
Low miles are very much preferred (I know it's getting harder to find sub 100k ones, but they do pop up from time to time). We are replacing a very reliable (but small) car with this FJ, and with a 6 month old daughter, I'm totally not ok with breakdowns or fixes (I'm realistic about cars, but a sound vehicle is less prone to issues).
I'll check in from time to time but if you have something, please post it (with description and pix), email it or call me.
I have $ and I'm ready to buy.
Thanks!

Check Sacremento Craigslist. I saw a 97 for sale with 90k miles in excellent condition for 14500. I offered 11500 and was turned down so it will take more than that.

I have got a 97' 40th w/ 230k on it and lockers. I might consider $15k. PM me if your interested. :)

LOL, I bet you will ;)
I emailed the CL one in sacramento. No response yet.
Book value is right on with what you offered - $11,500, you did the right thing... Asking $14,500....thing better come with a spare smart car at that price...

I offered NADA retail for the one in Sacramento. I thought that was fair. There were no modifications like a supercharger that would warrant a higher offer.

Agreed.
Called and spoke to him - says people are lining out the door to test drive it, etc.
He acknowledges it's overpriced. Says it has all lockers...and worth what he's asking.
I'm definitely willing to pay good $ for a good '80, but this guy seems to be unreasonable about fair market values.
Still, if it's still available after he has shown it to all 8 potential buyers, I guess I'll make an offer he can't refuse.
I have pix I can post later, but it's 100% original, never off road, etc...it IS a clean rig... from the pix he sent me, it isn't a 10/10 though....more like a solid 8/10...it IS a 13-14 year old cruiser.

Any other leads anyone? :)

Update:
So, he called me back last night and offered to sell it to me for $13,500.
Does this seem acceptable? It's on the high side but is it so hard to find sub-100k mile FJ80's that I should jump on this one?
He sent more pix and it really is pretty clean...especially inside where it shows very little signs or wear.
Would I be crazy to pay $13,500 for this one?
Also, he offered to send it to Toyota for a PPI.
Please advise? :)

What happened to the 8 people who didn't want to buy it? Go take a look at it and take xx,xxx Cash and make him and offer. He called you back @$13,500 the ball is in your court. Don't waste money your little girl will need braces soon:hillbilly:

Edit: He turned down 11,500 but has also had it longer now I bet he's wishing he took the 11,500 about now, might work out to someones advantage.

Depending on where you are located should have some effect on your decision. Shipping costs a ton and what ever you do, don't buy it sight unseen. Unless its you or a trained eye, I would be hesitant to purchase it at any price. As a seller, I like to leave a little for the next guy. As a buyer, I want a good deal something I can live with and feel good about. My gut feeling 13.5k is top value for this rig in this market. Make sure a little bit is left for you in the deal, don't buy it upside down unless you plan to keep it forever (which nobody does). Also remember, that it will need something (tires, brakes, detail, service, floormats, antenna, ac charged), they always do.

On another note, if it is exactly what you want/have always wanted and the price is something you can live with (along with seeing and driving it), go for it....The way I justify it...What SUV can you buy that will hold its value like a Land Cruiser and its just 13.5k

Thought I would lend a little advice here, unless there has been some work swith receipts showing a lot of preventative things have been done that sounds expensive...gut feeling since he called you with lower offer is that he will take less. I have 97 sage with lockers new tires, meticuous body and interior except for some peeling wood paneling, 137k miles just got out of shop replacing some leaking seals, fixed a/c leak, new muffler, repaired master cylinder in all costing me $3000.00 (not counting tires) although it is prob sold to another buyer I dont think I would ever get more than 12k for it. He should take less!!!!! That is unless its pulling small trailer with fj40 on it that goes with it!!
