I had 35's installed today and this is how it went

Why not just fit tires that work?

My primary motivation is clearance. I plan on wheeling this thing and want as much clearance as possible. I ran 33's on my 80 forever and when I made the jump to 35's, wheeling was sooo much better with the extra clearance. I was really kicking myself for not jumping to 35's sooner. And to me, the little modding required to make bigger tires fit is not that big of a deal. I'm pretty sure what little rubbing I have now can be fixed easily. Oh, and I like the way bigger tires look as well. ;)

Curious to see if you get any rubbing with 275/65R20's. I had rub on the UCA at full lock, mudflaps (front) and the front of the fender liner. Removed front mudflaps, 1/2" spacers and a little plastic removed on the fender liner and I am rub free now. I could see 35's rubbing everywhere, especially being that wide.

Can you tell me where you sourced the 1/2" or 12mm spacer? @RyanR

I finally found a 3/4" on the Bora site, but haven't had any luck with my poor google foo finding a 1/2" anywhere.

TIA!

Mine are BORA adapters, you may have to call them for the 1/2" size if they are not listed on the site though. FYI - Your stock studs will stick through the adapter about 1/4" or so. Before you go trimming them check the back side of your wheels. The stock LX570 20" rims have pockets between the holes and the extra stock stud length fits right into those pockets so no trimming required. Hope that makes sense.

Ok. Thanks. That's interesting on the stud length, and I figured there weren't any 1/2" adapters running around because of that. I measured and think 10mm or 12mm spacers (which don't have their own studs, they're just plates with the 5x150 bore and 110.3mm hub lip) would fit and still allow enough lug nut threads remaining on the stock lugs.

I'll check with Bora directly.

@grinchy look for posts by rs6tofj80, he had 10mm spacers and needed longer studs to make it work. I believe he eventually gave up on the spacers, and had them listed in the classifieds.

Perhaps I should measure the studs and not the length of threads inside a lug nut . . . I have a hub right here (reminding me to finish the other half of my axle rebuild) - verdict is: 3 cm. M14 x 1.5, so 30 mm is 20 threads. 15mm is 10 threads. I would think that is enough. (12mm spacer, 3mm wheel thickness = 15 mm). It is on the border though. If I had a 14x1.5mm nut handy I could verify one way or another.
An adapter is certainly a better idea though.

RS6 did run thru a lot of wheels and tires, so he has actual experience

I had the same company make 10mm for me too and the knurl of thr mew studs wouldnt seat. Had to boot that plan and go with the .75” boras. I had everyone looking for extended correct knurl studs. Didnt work out aka goose chase.
