I Found the Ghost

I'm happy to let everyone know that I finally found my electrical ghost that kept my headlights dark.

Let's just say that I had to invest about 5 hrs. to search for and find a bad ground on my fj62. The solution: bypass the bad ground with another piece of 12 inch 12 gauge wire and ground it to my steering column. Presto! Saved $960 in repairs!!!

Investment: $16 for an ohmmeter and 5 hrs plus lots o' frustration.

No more getting stopped by the "bad boys in blue"!

Now...on to my differential on my wife's 62......

something i noticed in my 60, if you adjust the steering wheel all the way down the light turn off, if you leave the steering wheel in the "up" adjustment the lights stay on. is this what your 62 was doing? i just leave the wheel up when night driving.

No. The inside of the vehicle got wet during a SEVERE rain storm and everything went out. Eventually, all came back except the lights which worked intermittantly for a week then finally went out.

I never tried to move the steering up or down, though. Interesting.

Alex I talked to John aka Grendel today. He was in NO doing 600 extractions from a cable a day from a channok. But he still found time to call me. Hell of a guy. I told him if his brother in law would just ship the 3rd to us and wait on the rest that would be cool. He said it would go out tomorrow. He said he is worn out. No sleep and hanging from a wire was not fun. And he said the worst was yet to come. They said they will start searching for bodies by ripping roofs open soon. Man I feel for him and everyone who has to go through that. He said the smell now is unbelievable and once the roofs start comming off it's going to be even worse.

Yea these fellows are doing a GREAT JOB.
Talked to Bodean yesterday & he said that in one day they are flying like 200 missions-thats a s*** load of fuel he's pumping.
