The rockpile on Pritchett :smokin: Looks like you gave 'er he!! Also looks like they cleared a lot of the rocks away from the base for a more challenging climb  Hope you had a spare & made it out okay. Were those Poly rears? Any plans for an upgrade? :D

Damn - bounced and took a solid hit. Ditto on what rear axles?

yeah, there were zero rock stacked up.....and i really want to upgrade to a fj80 full floater axle i think

factory shafts, been beating on them for going on 4 years now.....i didn't have my spare with me, we welded some bolts from the axle to the brake caliper bracket and drove it out in 3 wheel drive....we had to go back out the way we came too

is the 80 series is an upgrade??

i think it will make future breakage recoveries easier, but those Studs that hold on the full floater are going to be your week point right??

i pulled up on to the rock pile at cruise moab with 100" wb and decided my balls are not quite big enough for that one yet..

Did you know that was the last obstacle on that trail? You were only about 1/2 mile from the end. I wouldn't bother w/ FJ80 stuff, you need an offset 6 lug 35 spline D60 ;p

yeah, they told me we were close to the end.....and i was having a really awesome day until then, my 40 was just whomping up everything with ease... but really stupid of me to hit it like that because it cost me the chance to wheel helldorado at bfe the next day.....back at camp we couldn't get the broken peice out of the detroit....i got it apart this weekend and not only did the short side shaft break, it twisted the splines on the long side

I sure could use one of those...

Are you currently running the stock Cruiser rear axle - or a mini truck rear. Thinking for how hard you must have been hammering it that it must be a mini?

it's a FJ60 axle, i've been hammering on it- but i've never took a bounce anything like what happened in the video and never with that kind of traction either

All about "breaking"

About 4+ years ago, I took my new (and virgin 'wheeler) girlfriend to Penrose, Colorado for 3 days of 'wheelin. We dropped in early Friday morning, and within an hour we started a long list of broken parts:
1. Pass. side steering arm studs, w/ damage to the knuckle, bearings and seals
2. Pass. side rear axle (couldn't find a replacement, but the disc brakes held the tire in place!). It only took 12 years of wheeling these shafts to finally break one!
3. Broken axle destoyed the ARB
4. Torn bikini top - the least of our worries
5. Cut a sidewall on my 37" Swamper SSR's
6. Driver's side steering arm w/ all the same damage as above (9 hour round-trip to get parts)
7. Bent tie rod
8. Shattered a brand new HiLift jack
9. Ignition switch failed - had to bypass it

We exited the 1 mile trail at 4pm on Sunday (3 days to go 1 mile)!!
The girlfriend stuck with me the whole time (even on the 9 hour trek home and back w/ parts), so I married her a few months later, and built her her own rig (Samurai 'truggy') about a year later. Now I'm in process of rebuilding my FJ40 in order to keep up with her - she's a hardcore 'wheeler (Carnage, Die Trying, Cactus Ridge, Cactus 2, and Topless are some of her favorites)!

The 40 now rides on custom built Dana 60's, so hopefully these problems will not be repeated!!

I've been 4-wheeling since 1986, and have had my FJ40 since 1991. One thing is certain: the process of breaking/rebuilding is never ending. If you build it stronger than you need, hopefully your specific break will not be repeated, but the next time you will find the next weakest link!

Good Luck!
