But im still going to post it here.

about at the end of the summer i will be swaping fj60 axles, and fj60 tranny and tcase into my 40. so im trying to gather as muhc information about the axle swap as i can. im nto sure if this is or isnt a common swap, but have alot of people here done this swap? if so, what complications have you come across? do you remember how far you outboarded your perches? also, i assume i cant use my 3 speed bellhousing correct? i have been thinking about getting an sm465 or sm420. in in which i would be able to use the 3 speed bellhousing right? or would i just be better off using the 4 speed trannyfrom the fj60?

Max here is my axle swap spring over thread

springs are outboarded 1.25" if I remember correctly.

3 speed bell housing will not work with 4 speed tranny, talk to treeroot, he can most likely help you out in getting one.

sm465, or sm420 will not work with the normal plate style adapter because you are swapping to the split case. The best adapter for this swap is a marlin toybox $$. I think AA dose make an adapter for it but it is around 6" long and is pretty pricey.

another quick question. the bellhousing from the 4 speed fj60 tranny. will that work with my 1F? or will i have to go about finding a 4 speed bellhousing from a fj40?

It might not have the motor mounts on the Bellhousing.. If it does not, I have som spare 4 speed BH's. I could send ya one.

im new to the 60 axle swap it seems like a lot of work and what is the gain put the parts in 40 axles also you drop from 411s to 373 some honest input on this would be cool with that longer axle on 1 side how is the breakage

Third members swap ;)

For me the swap really made sense, coming from drum front end. True I could have just bolted all the front 60 series axle parts on my 40 housing, but the width gain was a huge seller, plus I was doing a SO anyway, so really not much more work. Not to mention the 60 housing I had was already C&T. Outboarding is not hard, just takes a little time. And once again, I run 4.11 thirds out of my old 40 axles till they detonate.

Breakage? none yet. I know that wagons have a reputation for snapping the long side rear, but they are a lot heavier than a 40, well at least my 40. If they break, quick fix to pig rears, I have faith in the yota stuff
